Voigtlander 15mm f/4.5 Super Wide Heliar Reviews

SLRLensreview reviews the Voigtlander 15mm f/4.5 Super Wide Heliar and writes;
“You will be hard pressed to find a better lens for the price then Voigtlander Super Wide Heliar 15mm f//4.5. Seriously. While the lens is by no means perfect, Cosina struck a good balance in delivering value where one needs it. Good image resolution, build quality, decent color handling and more importantly the right price.”

Luminous-landscape reviews the Voigtlander 15mm f/4.5 Super Wide Heliar and writes;
“The 15mm Heliar offers very good contrast and resolution, especially when closed down one to two stops. With a maximum aperture of f/4.5 it’s a bit slow for some shooting situations, though fine for outdoor use. But to really get the lens to its optimum aperture one has to stop down to f/8. I saw little flare in real-world use, and when I did (inevitable with a lens this wide) it was always well controlled.. “

Kenrockwell reviews the Voigtlander 15mm f/4.5 Super Wide Heliar and writes;
“There is never anything out of focus, so bokeh has no meaning here. There is no coma. Bright points of light on the sides simply look like bright points of light. This is wonderful, because most ultrawide lenses turn these points of light into blobs or batwings in the corners. This 15mm lens has no coma, even at f/4.5. Focus is fast and sure. The focus ring is somewhat faster than Leica’s standard. With the tab at the bottom of the lens, you’re focused at 3 feet (0.9m). It’s always sharp, even wide open, even in the corners, at any distance. It has the same optics as the original screw-mount Voigtländer 15mm.”

I partially disagree with the reviewer. The sample photos show that even in the corners aliasing is excited. Thus the lens overmatches the Leica sensor at the corners as for resolution. Aliasing is reduced at f/8, following physics laws.
I found that it overmatches even the scanner Minolta 5400 II up to 15 mm from the center at 5400 dpi, 103 lp/mm, >5000LW/PH (D3x = 2900 theoretical!!!). No distortion (much less than 1.1% on full frame, only a bit of pincushion at the corners of full-frame. The reviewer maybe measured distortion at a very short distance), no coma to speak of. I measured CA at 0.03% on FF on the same Minolta scanner, very rare. This performance is unique in wide angles and can be found only in the very best lenses of all times (no more than twenty). There is no weakness in any point of the image, aperture, distance. This 15 mm can use filters (even Cokin A for the screwmount version on Zeiss and Voigtlander cameras). This is maybe the best super-wide FF lens ever built, regardless of price. Even the Distagon ZM 15 is interesting only because of the very sharp f/2.8-4 apertures, rarely used) and has a lot of distortion, denying good use in high resolution architecture photo (no PS please for destroying details!). The others, including big zooms, are far beyond.
I have one SW Heliar on a Zeiss Ikon SW body and I am really astonished (I mainly use Nikon and Zeiss lenses on SLRs and DSRLs). The photo depends only by you and your equipment: not all cameras and eyes have the same accuracy.
