virtualPhotographer Plug-in Update Includes More Effects and a New Stand-alone Photo Editor

March 30, 2009 — optikVerve Labs has updated virtualPhotographer, its free Photoshop plug-in filter that allows photographers and graphic artists to instantly apply high quality professional photographic effects to digital images with just one click.

The updated software features batch processing to apply effects to many photos simultaneously and a much larger resizable viewing window. The release also includes 200 preset one-click effects, including new favorites such as polarize, infrared, cross process, gradient, and other film and darkroom techniques. virtualPhotographer has been downloaded by millions of users worldwide.

optikVerve Labs also released a new stand-alone full-featured photo editor – virtualStudio – that can run virtualPhotographer and other plug-in filters. virtualStudio was developed as a quick and easy alternative to using a complex imaging application each time a photographer wants to add artistic effects to a photo. The virtualStudio editor allows users to work with over 30 file formats. Features include those expected in high quality editing software: auto exposure, enhance, sharpen, equalize, and white balance, in addition to manual brightness/contrast, color temperature, hue/saturation/lightness controls, shadows and highlights settings, full curves functionality, and histograms. virtualStudio comes with a selection of picture frames and the ability to add a title and copyright information.

The Photoshop plug-in, virtualPhotographer, can be used with any version of Photoshop® (up to and including CS3 on Vista 64) and the latest versions of Photoshop® Elements, Paint Shop Pro®, Photo-Paint® and other imaging applications, as well as virtualStudio. Both virtualPhotographer and virtualStudio are free and available for download for Windows at

More about virtualPhotographer

No more layers! virtualPhotographer lets photographers with minimal knowledge of digital photo editing achieve professional results easily and quickly. Professional photographers and graphic artists will find the plug-in filter gives them exceptional control without spending hours at their computer using complicated image editing applications. A single one-click effect in virtualPhotographer could involve 10 to 20 steps in a typical editing program.

The power of virtualPhotographer lies in its large number of preset effects that instantly add sophisticated photographic styles to a digital photo and then allows the user to easily modify those effects to their exact liking. The automatic effects apply combinations of layers, blend modes, film grain, color space modification, B/W, soft focus, high contrast and many other artistic styles to achieve the same professional-looking images that used to take hours of digital editing.

All effects can be manually adjusted for even finer control and can be saved as custom settings so that photographers can apply their own style to a collection of their photos. In addition, the plug-in includes manual settings to recreate the use of a film camera and darkroom techniques, including many film and slide types, ASA speed, emulsion, color filters, B/W tinting, contrast and blur, and more.
