Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 Di VC USD Reviews

Photozone reviews the Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 Di VC USD and writes;
“It is capable of delivering very sharp results at medium aperture settings and at max. aperture the center quality is more than decent. Lateral CAs are very low which contributes to the high sharpness perception. The vignetting is very pronounced at f/2.8 but this is actually quite normal in this (full format) lens class.”

Photographyblog reviews the Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 Di VC USD and writes;
“The Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 Di VC USD’s build quality is reassuringly good, and although quite big and bulky, it makes an ideal partner to a full-frame camera like the Canon EOS 5D Mark III that we tested it with. Image quality is generally excellent, with fantastic center sharpness throughout the zoom and aperture range. Chromatic aberrations are very well controlled, geometric distortion at 24mm is quite obvious but to be expected for an ultrawide lens, and flare is only ever an issue when shooting directly into the sun.”

Photographylife reviews the Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 Di VC USD and writes;
“As seen in the “Sharpness Test” and “Lens Comparisons” pages, the Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 shows excellent performance at 24mm, surpassing the Nikon 24-70mm in mid-frame and corner performance (mostly due to the donut-shaped field curvature the Nikon 24-70mm exhibits). In addition, the lens shows less ghosting, distortion and chromatic aberration issues than the Nikon 24-70mm at pretty much all focal lengths.”
Rating: ★★★★☆

Ephotozine reviews the Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 Di VC USD and writes;
“The Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD offers very good optical performance for a reasonable price. The added bonus of Vibration Compensation will appeal to many, especially if your photography tends to require shooting at slower shutter speeds in low light, rather than faster shutter speeds to freeze action.”

Cameralabs reviews the Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 Di VC USD and writes;
“The Tamron 24-70/2.8 VC delivers a pretty good overall performance – only the FX-corners disappoint especially at 35mm. On an unforgiving 36MP full-frame body you need to stop down to f5.6 to lift FX-corner performance to near good levels. Use it on a 12-16MP full frame/FX-body and you might be more satisfied with border/corner performance.. On a DX-body it mostly delivers good to very good performance, even reaching excellent levels in the center (at 50-70mm from f4 onwards).”

Lenstip reviews the Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 Di VC USD and writes;
“very good image quality in the frame centre for most combinations of apertures and focal lengths, image quality on the edge of the frame is similar or better than that of the direct rivals, sensibly corrected chromatic aberration, negligible vignetting on APS-CC/DX sensor, well corrected astigmatism, practically imperceptible coma on smaller APS-C/DX sensor, silent, accurate and fast autofocus, efficient image stabilization, as many as five years of warranty.”

Photoreview reviews the Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 Di VC USD and writes;
“Because this lens can’t focus closer than 38 cm from subjects, it’s not suitable for close-up shooting unless subjects are relatively large. The wide maximum aperture, which applies across the focal length range, provides plenty of scope for differential focusing. Bokeh was smooth and very attractive with longer focal length settings.”

Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 Di VC USD User Reviews

Compares very well to the Canon 24-70 L
“on the wide end, it’s significantly sharper than a good copy of the 24-70, most clearly so wide open; on the long end it’s a little less sharp wide open, but catches up just a stop later; focusing speed is a little slower, but we’re talking fractions of a second; the IS/VC is a huge help / image-saver at lower shutter speeds” – By Charleston Multimedia

Jack of All Trades
“AF is not L fast, but fast enough that I dont miss shots, and even AI Servo works fine. The build quality is on par with the 24-105mm, very very solidly built. The bokeh does have issues(onion and a tad bit busy), but I’ve found them to be very minor with real world shots, and very easy to clean up.” – By Charlie

CANON KILLER for FULL FRAME cameras
“this lens has excellent sharpness at most focal lengths wide open, with just a bit of softness and light falloff in the corners. Stop it down just one stop to f/4 and sharpness / contrast improves quite nicely in the corners, with superb image quality across the whole frame from f/5.6 through f/11.” – By David Siegfried

ITS A KNOCK OUT!!!!!! The winner is TAMRON
“The vibration compensation WORK extremely well. The picture stay sharp with steady hand even at slow 1/8th of seconds. There is vignetting in wide open f2.8, however the vignetting was very subtle and this does not bother me at all.” – By Alex Luy

Sharpest I have used
“This is now my most used lens, and it amazes me with its sharpness. I compared it with Canon’s 24-105 f/4.0 L series lens with the image stabilization. At equivalent apertures and zooms this lens is noticeably sharper. The vibration reduction function allows clear hand-held shots in rooms so dark that I can barely make out details with the naked eye.” – By cminlb “C”

A good alternative to Canon 24-70mm…with one caveat
“The auto focus is fast and accurate. It’s pretty much as fast as the 17-55mm 2.8 IS. Overall, i think it is still a great value, and I’m very pleased with the overall image quality (crossing fingers on the bokeh onion effect…)” – By Tom “wanderlust”
