Sony SEL55210 E 55-210mm f/4.5-6.3 Reviews

Photozone reviews the Sony SEL55210 E 55-210mm f/4.5-6.3 and writes;
“the Sony E 55-210mm f/4.5-6.3 OSS performed better than expected on the NEX 7 with its difficult 24 megapixel sensor. The lens is surely not remotely capable of exploiting the potential of this sensor but the results are generally decent – at least from a real world perspective. In the low to mid range the lens is very sharp in the image center and pretty good at the borders when stopping down a tiny bit.”

Beautiful Lens from an Amateur Point of View
“I can tell you that I love having this lens for my Sony NEX-5N 16.1 MP Compact Interchangeable Lens Touchscreen Camera with 18-55mm Lens (Black).. it takes really nice pictures and paired with the Sony camera, is a ton of features packed into a somewhat small camera.” – By K. Groh

Phototaker
“This lense is an excellent addition to your nex7 or other nex camera. I have taken this lense to the zoo multiple times and with stabilization on got some incredible pics. In NYC the other day I was able to get a pretty clear shot of the statue of liberty from the top of 30 rock, pretty impressive capabilities.” – By Reader

I love it
“I bought my SONY NEX5N in March and could not wait to add more lenses to my collection, today I purchased the 55-210mm lens at a local electronics store. As soon as I returned home, I immediately began to take pictures. The lens is totally silent when zooming in/out. The pictures were beautiful. There were no problems ‘focusing’.” – By Franchesca Guzman

Good quality lens
“For those wishing to add range from the 18-55mm kit lens this is a great option. It is relatively light and compact for this type of lens, as you’d expect for the NEX system, but still offers good image quality. It is better (and faster) than the kit lens at 55mm, and still good at 210mm.” – By Gomez

Fabulous lens. Extremely sharp and functions perfectly
“I love this lens. It is a joy to use and the photos are extremely clear even at the maximum focal length. The lens is slow (F4.5-6.3) but one can deal with that with a camera like the Sony Nex 5N that handles higher iso levels with little noise. Extremely quite when the xoom is operating so videos are largely free of xoom noise.” – By James M. Hellyer MD

Good lens compared to the alternative
“It is a lot cheaper than the other zoom lens offered by Sony. So far I’ve used it for closeups on wildlife and better shots at a baseball game. It works well for both of these, and the image stabilization that my NEX 5 offers kept the images nice and clear.” – By Adam Cole

Good lens… lacks sharpness at high end
“This is a very good, compact lightweight lens for my Nex 5N. Also cozy feel and good looking. Great for outdoor/portrait. Nice stabilization too. At the dark side – this lens is not sharp wide open at the tele end.” – By AyanD

Sharp
“Photos are very clear. Nice companion to the 18×55. Small body works well with Sony nex5n. Lense focus is smooth and fast. It’s a great low priced lense” – By Dee Lam

Great Image Quality-Get It
“I love this lens. I returned the 75300 because the images were not very clear. This lens is great! Even though this lens has only 55mm-210mm it is much better quality to shoot at 210mm and crop to the 300mm with much better results than the 75300. Also this lens has auto focus and manual focus so best of both worlds.” – By R. Fisher

Great lens, great price
“I originally got this to just try and see how I liked it, but once I started using it I loved it and kept it. For $350 you just can’t go wrong. It’s nice and sharp and gets you close to the action!” – By Brent Spiner

Good Lens, but if you have the 18-200 it isn’t necessary
“In trying the 55-210 at first, I compared the max zoom of the 18-200 to the max zoom of the 55-210 and they are nearly spot on the same which I was happy to see, especially with the much lighter weight of the new lens.. Image quality is very good and I could see this being a good primary lens for anyone using the video functions of the NEX series cameras.” – By C. P. Rahr

I’m very pleased with this lens
“The lens mounts and zooms easily, fits firmly, and works as it should–sharp and quick-focusing. But what I appreciate most about it is the rock-solid image stabilization. Even when zoomed out to maximum focal length this lens allows me to take handheld shots in late afternoon light.” – By Re Decker
