Sony SAL55200 55-200mm f/4-5.6 DT ED Reviews

Kurtmunger reviews the Sony SAL55200 55-200mm f/4-5.6 DT ED and writes;
“The lens is sharp, even at maximum apertures, and the corners look fine about one stop down. This lens will give great results when used wide open, contrary to the Sony super zooms, which need to be stopped down hard at the long end to look sharp..”

SLRGear reviews the Sony SAL55200 55-200mm f/4-5.6 DT ED and writes;
“The 55-200mm ƒ/4-5.6 fared well in our tests: sharpness is very good, even when used wide open, with light corner shading. CA is noticeable but light: corner shading is minor, and as is typical for this class of lens, distortion is fairly objectionable when used at the lens’ longer focal lengths.”

Sony SAL55200 55-200mm f/4-5.6 DT ED User Reviews

Sleeper lens that takes great pictures | Rating: ★★★★★
“For APS sensors (all Sony DSLRs but A900), has ED glass, circular aperture. Very light weight. Does macro. Perfect for travel. It is not a $2000 pro G lens or even a $599 Zeiss lens. But you know, for $100 it takes GREAT pictures and is light weight. I thought this zoom range was odd but, it has been fun to use and useful.” – by J. Coates

Good for outdoor usage | Rating: ★★★★☆
“The focus speed is good if the light is bright enough. The only disadvantage is the min. focus distance when you use it in the outside. This lens need about 1.5 meter at least to get focused..” – by Y. Wang

Features & Specifications

Sony SAL55200 55-200mm f/4-5.6 DT ED Specifications

A superb all-purpose telephoto zoom lens you can afford. The Sony SAL-DT55200 55-200mm f4-5.6 Telephoto Zoom Lens is an excellent all-around value, covering the medium to long-distance telephoto range family photographers will use most often. It also provides close minimum focusing distance of about 3 feet (.95m), for tight shots of people, natural subjects and close-up details. Its compact, lightweight design makes it easy to carry as your standard or accessory lens — and all your shots will benefit from the Sony Super SteadyShot image stabilization system built into every Sony ¿ system DSLR. (35mm equivalent: 82.5-300mm).

Features :
SteadyShot INSIDE™ In-Camera Image Stabilization
A major reason for its compact, lightweight lens design is the benefit of SteadyShot INSIDE™ in-camera image stabilization, built into every® α (alpha) DSLR camera — and enabling lenses to eliminate the extra weight and expense of in-lens stabilization mechanisms.

DT Lens Design
A more compact, lightweight lens designed specifically for the APS-size CCD imager used in some Sony® α (alpha) DSLR cameras.

Smooth Autofocus Motor (SAM)
The built-in Smooth Autofocus Motor (SAM) eliminates the need to use a mechanical coupling system in the camera body to transfer auto foucs (AF) drive power and control signals to the lens. Instead, AF control signals from the camera body are sent to the lens-mounted SAM unit, which drives the focusing lens group directly, helping to assure smooth AF response.

ED (Extra-low Dispersion) Glass
To reduce chromatic aberration at telephoto extension, correcting certain wavelengths of light for sharp, clear images with well defined colors.

Circular Aperture
Because aperture blades form a near circle at the wide openings used for low-light shots, spot-light sources have a pleasing circular defocused effect.
