So the camera was taken by my daughter to the beach…dreaded “access” message, black screen saying power off, lens was cocked half open and wouldn’t move when she came home.

Well, I tried everything else from resetting the factory setting to manually resetting the camera via the power/battery/menu buttons to no avail…blew compressed air, vacuumed, changed battery…repeatedly slid strips of paper around the lenses to dislodge the grit, nothing.

Figured it was a loss since it was a few years old anyway, repair charge would be ridiculous.

So I banged it tentatively —then I went and got a slim paring knife and worked the lens up and down….nothing.

Decided what the heck and whacked it down three times HARD on the granite counter-top.

The lens grinds open, shut, all the way open, “access” goes away, screen comes back.

Camera WORKS again!! THANK YOU fellow camera whackers, I wouldn’t have had the guts to do it without ya!

thanks so much I had the same problem with the access screen. Your a life saver, I’ve got a 2month old…and can’t afford a new cam, so I’m so relieved it works again!!! THANK-YOU!!!..think of all the money you have saved us all from having to buy new cameras!!!

wowwwww this works. i was sitting on two cameras and i banged them whammm and it works cool. this is how i used to fix a number of things and was not popular bout that. this time i fixed it. thanks guys

whamm i bashed mine on my palm and twisted it a bit to make sure and whaaam it worked. let me see if i can fix the next one.

THANK YOU!!! I thought for sure I would have to buy a new camera. TApped it on the counter and BINGO it works! Mine went out during my daughters 6th birthday party. Thank heavens for a good cell phone camera. Still would have been nice to have the camera working. THANK YOU AGAIN!!!

i have sony cybershot 7.2mega pixel dsc w-55 camera..
my computers detects my pen drive but whwn i connect my camera to the same port it says…problem installing the hardware…which and from where to download any driver if required …plz help me out..

My Camera had the typical side effects. I finally pulled the lens out to where it was aligned to go back and forth. When i turn it on, the lens goes in and out 3 times, then gives me the message. And yes i’ve been banging on it…

Hello,
I have the sony cybershot model dscw55 and when I plug it into my computer it recognizes the device but it won’t come up with options for me to download my pictures, please help!
