Sony Alpha SLT-A99V Reviews

Ephotozine reviews the Sony Alpha SLT-A99V and writes;
“Image quality is particularly pleasing with excellent noise performance and focus performance is excellent thanks to the cameras SLT technology, allowing fast focusing for continuous shooting as well as video recording. Another unique feature is AF range control which could be particularly useful for sports or wildlife photographers where the subject is a set distance. Colour, detail, and dynamic range are all excellent with the camera producing great photos straight from the camera.”

PCMAG reviews the Sony Alpha SLT-A99V and writes;
“If you’re a fan of the EVF experience, the Sony Alpha 99 is sure to tickle your fancy—it’s loaded with features and its image quality is top-notch;”
Rating: ★★★★☆

Pocket-lint reviews the Sony Alpha SLT-A99V and writes;
“From a movie capture point of view we’re impressed with the A99 beyond all its peers, largely because of the continuous autofocus and abundance of controls on offer. For a capable and easy-to-use movie capture system we can see this Sony scoring highly with videographers.”
Rating: ★★★½☆

Digitalcameraworld reviews the Sony Alpha SLT-A99V and writes;
“Thanks to its full-frame sensor and 24.3 million photosites the A99 can record a lot of detail – especially in raw files – and noise is controlled well. Even images captured at ISO 12,800 look good at sensible printing sizes like A3.”

Expertreviews reviews the Sony Alpha SLT-A99V and writes;
“So far we’ve only been able to shoot a small selection of JPEGs and not make any direct comparisons with rival cameras. It looks like the A99′s noise levels are impressively low but not up to the Canon 5D Mark III’s standards.”
rating: N/A

Photoclassic reviews the Sony Alpha SLT-A99V and writes;
“I have only had a chance to shoot with the camera for about 3 hours but what I have seen so far has been very impressive. Focusing is fast and accurate and exposures are pretty accurate, with a slight tendency to under-expose a little in challenging conditions (which is infinitely better than over-exposing!)”
rating: N/A

Digitalcamerainfo reviews the Sony Alpha SLT-A99V and writes;
“We’re also excited about the A99’s emphasis on video. Any manufacturer can claim that its DSLR is positioned for video, but Sony’s new silent control dial is an especially smart addition. Combined with extensive connectivity options and full-time double phase-detection autofocus, the A99 may very well become the new standard for SLR video,”
rating: N/A

Imaging-resource reviews the Sony Alpha SLT-A99V and writes;
“the Sony A99 includes a full-frame version of the company’s Translucent Mirror Technology, using a transparent mirror to reflect a small amount of light up to a phase-detect sensor just beneath the Sony logo. This eliminates the traditional moving mirror, allowing for faster frame rates and constant autofocus, rather than the necessarily interrupted focus of other professional SLR systems.”

Low Noise and Some Undiscovered Magic but Mediocre Video
“I’ve found that shooting RAW, I get excellent images at ISO 6400 with an A99. Shooting at ISO 3200, the noise differences in the A99 and A77 were easily apparent without pixel peeping…” – By Tim Naff

An amazing PRO camera – superior by design
“I have worked a long time with my A900, and I also now tried the Nikon D800 and Canon 5D III, but I find this A99 a gamechanger. Especially with its EVF, I find the shooting experience so much superior to any conventional DSLR. I am glad I bought the A99.” – By Chris

What to Expect if Upgrading from an A57 or A65
“I’m primarily a manual focus shooter and I’m pretty fast with it. The AF system on the a99 is very, very assured. Everyone says that the Zeiss 85 (and 85s in general) are slow to the target. In terms of speed I had no issues.” – By Alex Parker

Professional Level Camera
“The camera offers a lot of features for both still and video photography and I am still learning to utilize them all after purchasing the camera in January. I am very pleased with the color and detail in the images this system produces. This SLR design, using a stationary mirror, reduces noise, vibration and mechanical complexity and supports a high burst frame rate.” – By E. Johnson

Excellent camera
“The image quality from this camera is stunning. It’s great to be able to crank the ISOs up so high, and still (after shooting RAW and processing my images in Lightroom 4.2) get clean, colourful images.” – By Jeremy Birn

Sony really got it right this time
“No longer does twilight or indoor event shooting limit the use of my 70-400G (f/4-5.6) lens. With other models ISO 800 was really tops for noise-free images; with the a99 there’s at least a two-stop improvement, with ISO 3000-4000 producing fantastic IQ!” – By AlanS

Appealing but expensive full frame technology showcase for Sony
“Very good to great video for a DSLR – and likely well ahead of Canon and Nikon on this one. Video shot in 60p is particularly impressive, and the camera maintains tight focus on high-speed subjects and challenging scenes with minimal hunting. ” – By D. F. Watt

A wonderful upgrade to the a77..for a big price
“At the end of the day I’m extremely pleased with both the photos and videos I’m getting from this camera. ISO 6400 is very usable and I find myself not reaching for my 58AM flash as quickly, and the low light video is considerably improved over the A77.” – By Shawn C.

Excellent and gives Nikon/Canon a run for their money
“I ran about 100 test shots today at various focal lengths using the Sony 24-70 lens and then had them analyzed by Reikan’s FoCal software. At 24mm, the best focus was found at an AF fine tune setting of -2. At 70mm the best was at +4. Wow! This is actually pretty darned great.. When I tested the Nikon D600 using the Nikon 24-70 lens, it was also -2 @24mm but -17 @70mm. That’s a huge difference.” – By T Payne
