Sony Alpha NEX-6 Reviews

Imaging-resource reviews the Sony Alpha NEX-6 and writes;
“All in all, the Sony NEX-6 strikes me as a just-right answer to the enthusiast’s need for a more affordable mirrorless camera. It has faster autofocus that can track a subject while firing off 10 frames per second, an electronic viewfinder, an articulating LCD screen, more physical control dials than anything but the NEX-7 — less complexity than the NEX-7 — and has a high-quality 16.1-megapixel sensor that Sony says is optimized for better low-light performance.”

Photographyblog reviews the Sony Alpha NEX-6 and writes;
“In terms of image quality, the Sony NEX-6 is as good as any other camera with an APS-C sized sensor. The photos it produces tend to be well-focussed and sharp, with good detail throughout the frame. High-ISO performance is pretty impressive, flash exposures are spot on, colours and tonality are generally excellent, and the customisation options for JPEGs are dazzling.”

Engadget reviews the Sony Alpha NEX-6 and writes;
“There’s a lot here, and we expect almost any buyer to walk away happy. It’s a pricey tool, no doubt about it, but if you’re serious about photography, the NEX-6 really should be your next camera.”

PCPro reviews the Sony Alpha NEX-6 and writes;
“Sony already dominated the CSC market for sensor quality, but with the NEX-6’s smaller and sharper kit lens, faster autofocus performance, better controls and integrated flash, it feels like the camera we’ve all been waiting for. It’s pricey but it’s hard to imagine a more accomplished compact camera.”

Expertreviews reviews the Sony Alpha NEX-6 and writes;
“We got a chance to try the NEX-6 out with Sony’s new 35mm f/1.8 lens, the SEL35F18. This gives an effective focal length of 52mm, which is perfect for general snapping. It delivered seriously sharp focus at f/4 and – predictably – superb low-light performance at f/1.8.”

Theverge reviews the Sony Alpha NEX-6 and writes;
“The NEX-6 takes great pictures and good video, it doesn’t break my back to carry around, and I don’t worry about missing shots while I scroll through menus. That’s a pretty killer combination,”

Ephotozine reviews the Sony Alpha NEX-6 and writes;
“This new addition to the NEX range offers a wide range of features such as its APS-C sensor, tiltable screen, high-speed shooting, full HD video recording and you can purchase from a large number of NEX lenses. Picture quality is excellent, with good colour reproduction and noise performance up to and including ISO 3200.”

PCMAG reviews the Sony Alpha NEX-6 and writes;
” Without a doubt, the NEX-6 is up there with the best cameras in terms of high ISO image quality—it beats our top-end mirrorless Editors’ Choice, the Olympus OM-D E-M5 $1,299.00 at Amazon at both ISO 3200 and 6400 in terms of detail and noise.”
Rating: ★★★★½

Trustedreviews reviews the Sony Alpha NEX-6 and writes;
“Image quality from the NEX-6 can be excellent at times, although minor white balance inconsistencies and poor corner sharpness with the 16-50mm kit zoom can conspire to put a slight dampener on things. Still, with prompt write and shot-to-shot times, as well as a competent AF system, the NEX-6 remains a solid – if not quite outstanding – performer.”
Rating: ★★★½☆

Digitalcamerainfo reviews the Sony Alpha NEX-6 and writes;
“We’re not sure what Sony’s game is here, but hey, from a consumer’s perspective the NEX-6 looks like an amazing deal. Other than reduced megapixel resolution, it seems like the NEX-6 offers almost all of the NEX-7’s best features, plus the best new features of the NEX-5R, all for much less than the NEX-7’s current street price.”
rating: N/A

Techradar reviews the Sony Alpha NEX-6 and writes;
“So far, we’ve been pretty impressed with what we’ve seen. The new kit lens makes the NEX-6 a much sleeker proposition, making it much closer in size to Micro Four Thirds cameras which of course use a smaller sensor.”
rating: N/A

Expertreviews reviews the Sony Alpha NEX-6 and writes;
“We prefer its 16-megapixel resolution to the NEX-7′s 24-megapixel sensor, as it delivers lower noise and more than enough detail. Automatic exposures at ISO 3200 were easily good enough to print, and brightly lit shots were packed with detail.”
rating: N/A

Pocket-lint reviews the Sony Alpha NEX-6 and writes;
“It’s better designed and more affordable than the NEX-7 and from our hands-on experience we reckon this is the very best NEX yet. In fact, short of the autofocus system not bettering its rivals, it’s one of the best compact system camera we’ve used.”
rating: N/A

Ephotozine reviews the Sony Alpha NEX-6 and writes;
“The Sony NEX-6 features a larger APS-C sized sensor so should provide better low light performance, and Sony’s lens range now includes 13 lenses,.. The Olympus OM-D E-M5 features a Micro Four Thirds lens, as well as the choice of over 26 lenses, from both Olympus and Panasonic, a number of these are compact, meaning that despite the Olympus OM-D E-M5 looking bigger in these pictures, it could easily provide a smaller system with the right lens choices.”
rating: N/A

Gadalert reviews the Sony Alpha NEX-6 and writes;
“The uses a 2.4-million dot OLED viewfinder acquired from the NEX-7 model or the Alpha a99 models. It is impressively sharp and is not on the same league compared to any other electronic viewfinder. This is not an optical viewfinder but it supportively relays the white balance and exposure problems before any picture is taken.”

Sony Alpha NEX-6 User Reviews

Nearly perfect – a pocketable camera for high image quality
“The heart of the NEX-6 is an APS-C size sensor, the size in the vast majority of DSLRs. It’s 1.5 times the size of a the “4/3rds” sensor found in similar Olympus and Panasonic cameras and 3 times the size of the sensor in Nikon 1 cameras. As a result, the image quality is excellent up to ISO 1600 and not bad up to ISO 6400.” – By Michael Sandman

A transformational platform for digital photography
“The kit lens is better than I hoped, and yet, not a great lens. Like all kit lenses, it’s a compromise. The corner vignetting at 16mm is quite pronounced, as is the barrel distortion. You can correct the distortion in Photoshop quite easily; you can minimize the vignetting a bit, too.” – By Medical Marketing Maven

DSLR Quality in a portable size Camera
“A portable Camera provides better quality than most of lower ends of DSLR cameras. And you can’t beat the portability since its vital to me who travels often!” – By K. J. Lee

Amazing Pictures
“Overall, as mentioned, as I’ve used this camera more, I’ve not regretted my purchase. The apps are great, the camera build quality is great, feels very comfortable in the hand, and the pictures are such an improvement I’ll never go back.” – By JB

superb image quality from your pocket
“I shoot images for gallery display and sales, and I use several cameras to do it. When you are trying to sell prints in galleries, they need to be good – really good. My Nikon D300s and Canon G1x both produce superb quality, but neither of them is what you would call pocketable (the G1x can be, but it does have some limitations out in the field).” – By Teddy W. Raper

Best NEX yet
“The NEX-6 shoots multiple frames much faster than the NEX-5, this makes shooting with exposure bracketing faster and it is a big improvement for HDR shooting since it reduces the risk of ghost images resulting from motion in the frame. The phase detect auto focus is fast and reliable.” – By Tom S

Prompted me to Sell my Nikon D7000 for the D600
“Ordered the 5R but lack of EVF prompted me to sell it and acquire the NEX 6 which is even better with all the external dials (less menu diving) and better built. The IQ is on par with my Nikon D7000 with good IQ up to ISO 3200. The autofocus continuous is not as fast as the Nikon but knowing the limitations allow me to use the camera as its strengths.” – By MrVag

Small, light, well-built; DSLR quality; you can carry it in a jacket
“The Sony NEX-6 is a small, light, well-built camera which you can carry in the pocket of a jacket. It produces photos that are indistinguishable to the naked eye from those of APS-C and even FF DSLRs. The 16-50 power-zoom kit lens produces good results for a kit lens, which is *great* when one considers its small size (about the same as the Sony E-Mount 16mm f/2.8). All things considered, a winning combination.” – By F.A.H.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!
“The NEX 6 is an enthusiast’s camera. It’s for photographers who are looking for more manual controls than are available in the NEX 3 or 5 models. It has a similar 16 MP sensor to the others and the same very good image quality. You aren’t gaining better picture quality in getting the 6 vs one of the NEX 3 or 5 models.” – By Michael McKee

Amazing little camera, no regrets
“First off I want to preface this by saying that I’m an amateur photographer who’s looking to get better but understands what a good picture looks like. But at the end of the day I get more satisfaction in capturing a good moment, an image that I can look at later and remember that moment and not worry about having CA or higher levels of noise, or even if the image is slightly under/over exposed.” – By J Park

Great Camera
“The picture quality is simply outstanding. The sensor is top notch. It’s big, it is great at absorbing light, and the shots look beautiful. This was one of the main factors in choosing Sony over Micro 4/3 or Nikon. I wanted the depth of field provided by the larger sensor, as well as the better low light performance (in theory, at least).” – By T. Hosford
