Sony Alpha NEX-5T Review
Features & Design
Sony Alpha NEX-5T has made to replace the previous model NEX 5-R that is enough please. But now the latest model combines new NFC feature with the advancement of raw performance, fun features, and affordability from the previous model. When compared to the previous model, NEX 5-T offers more advanced connectivity than the NEX 5-R which only offer Wi-Fi for sharing file while the NEX 5-T adds NFC connectivity for easy share file into compatible devices like Tablets or Smartphone with just one touch. It also equipped with new Sony 16-50mm Power Zoom Kit Lens and white color options.
The NEX-5T has the same specs as the NEX 5-R by offering the same 16.0 Megapixels EXMOR APS-C Images Sensor, the same ISO sensitivity from 100 to 25600, the same BIONZ processor, and the same 99-point hybrid autofocus system. The camera also has a 3.0-inch touch screen that can tilt up 180 degrees and easy for self-portraits. The touch screen offers 921600 dots resolution which makes the camera is easy for pint-point focus with just one touch finger on the screen.
In addition, NEX 5-T has the same design with the NEX 5-R, but smaller and lighter when paired with the new Sony 16-50mm Power Zoom Kit Lens. It would be very suitable and convenient to use for small-handed photographers. In addition, this camera also has a more efficient control than previous models by offering a standard button on the back of the camera which can be used with four-way to access the camera features. The camera is also equipped with function keys such as AF mode, white balance, and metering is located above the camera that makes the camera easy to use to capture images quickly.
Performance & Image Quality
By combining 16.0 Megapixels sensor APS-C Exmor and BIONZ processor, the NEX 5-T is capable of producing high quality images. And equipped with ISO sensitivity is from 100-25600, the camera allows you to take pictures in low light situations without worried about noise thanks to noise reduction technology. Thanks to the same sensor and processor as the previous model making the NEX 5-T has the same capabilities and performance with the NEX 5-R that is quite satisfactory previous users. While the Hybrid AF system’s ability to make users more impressed with fast performance and accurate in every shooting situation.
Speaking of image quality, no doubt the NEX 5-T has the same image quality with the NEX 5-R due to the use of the same sensor and processor. Image noise handled well, which almost no noise from ISO 100-3200 and not too obvious at ISO speed up to 6400. At ISO 12800 noise began to appear when viewing images at 100% on screen, but the image can still be used for small print and use on the web. At ISO 25600 image noise is enough disturbing image quality.
While the video quality is quite satisfactory, users can record video 1080/60p at 28Mbps or 60i and 24p in AVCHD. Not only that, users can also record video in the form MP4/h.264 super wide for 1440×1080 recording at 12Mbps. Optical lens also maintain video quality and the image remains smooth. During video recording, the lens is also fairly quiet when zooming so make sure the sound quality is quite clean.
Should I buy the camera
Sony NEX 5-T has the same design, features, performance, and image quality as the previous model NEX 5-R. The camera only adds NFC features that allows users to transfer their images to a compatible device such as Tablet or Smartphone.
I would buy the NEX 5-T if I really need NFC feature and I would not buy it if I just want a picture quality that I needed. And prefer NEX 5-R that has the same picture quality despite having no NFC feature. Judging from the price of the NEX-5 T has a very good value to replace the NEX 5-R. It’ll available on the market in early September 2013 with price of US$700 including the 16-50mm Power Zoom kit lens.
