Sony Alpha a7R

Sony Alpha a7R is mirrorless digital cameras with full-frame sensor. This camera was launched in October 2013 with his brother Sony Alpha a7. Both cameras are claimed by Sony as a full-frame mirrorless camera is the smallest and lightest in the world. The a7R has a full-frame sensor with 36.4 megapixel resolution and without the use of a low-pass filter that has the potential to produce sharper images while a7 has a full-frame sensor with 24.3 megapixel resolution. Sony Alpha a7R also equipped with features such as a new gapless lens design on the sensor chip, the BIONZ X Image processor, 3.0-inch Tiltable TFT LCD, OLED electronic viewfinder, and the ability to record Full HD 1080/60p. The camera also has built-in WiFi connectivity and NFC, Multi-Interface Shoe, including compatible with E-mount lenses. Sony Alpha a7R will be available in December 2013 with a price range of $2,298.00.

Features & Design

Viewed from the front, the Sony Alpha a7R has a smooth surface with a shallow and wide grip. There is a control knob on the front right side up and at the top of the camera control buttons are being leveled for enthusiastic photographers. The control buttons consist of the mode dial, shutter button, custom buttons, and exposure button. There is also an electronic viewfinder on the left upper camera with Multi Interface Shoe on the top. All the controls are very intuitive making it very easy to use whenever needed.


In the back of the camera, you can use the 3.0-inch TFT LCD Monitor with a resolution 1.229k-point for view the image results with sharp and clear. The LCD screen has the ability to be tilted. While the electronic viewfinder has a high resolution up to 2.4M-dot with a proximity sensor that automatically switch the display to the main screen or the viewfinder when your eye toward or away from the viewfinder.


Additionally, the rear control is also quite easy to use. The Menu Button and Costum 2 located on the top of LCD screen, while on the side of the screen there is a Focus mode button, AEL button, Function button, including a button to set the Drive mode, Display mode, or White Balance mode. Not only that, two other buttons are located on the back is the Playback button and the Delete button.

Performance & Image Quality

The Sony Alpha a7R has 36.4MP Full Frame Exmor CMOS Sensor and eliminate Optical Low-Pass Filter to optimize the high-resolution images with rich detail. While the new Gapless On-Chip Lens Design ensures a light sensor angle-to-angle increased. In addition, the range of ISO100-25600 provides a rich saturation and bright light on the situation while in a dark situation can produce clear images without noise up to ISO2746 (according to DxOMark).

While the image processor owned by a7R offer high speed for capturing and processing images includes providing speeds of autofocus and shooting up to 4fps. Equipped with Front-end LSI (large-scale integration), this camera is able to improve the image processing from start to finish to produce images with details that are more natural and rich tones.

You can record Full HD video in 1080 with frame rates of 24p/60i/60p in AVCHD and MP4 file format. With HDMI connectivity, you can play video on your TV by connecting the camera via HDMI cable. Video recording is also supported by the built-in microphone and an external stereo to record video with crystal clear sound. While the built-in WiFi and NFC allows you to easily transfer your photos and videos to compatible devices. Its feature also allows you to control Sony Alpha a7R using your smartphone or tablet.

Should I buy the camera?

Overall, design and capabilities of the Sony Alpha a7R very impressive. Control buttons and viewfinder also includes features that are attractive and intuitive. The camera feels nice and solid in the hand. Looking at the specifications and features that are owned, we recommend this camera for those of you who want a full-frame camera with a classy small size and light weight to get an amazing picture quality. Two cameras are a competitor to the Sony Alpha Sony Alpha a7R is a7 and Nikon D800 which you can buy at a price that is more affordable.
