Sony A5000 comes with a built-in popup flash like the NEX-3N with a similar control buttons on the top and back of the camera. At the top of the camera, you’ll find the shutter button and control dial to adjust the zoom lens. Video record button is located slightly behind the shutter button very easily accessed by your finger.

Moreover, on the back there is a 3.0-inch touchscreen LCD monitor with a resolution of 460.8k-dot and can be tilted up to 180 degrees. In addition, there is also a camera apps (PlayMemories Home) which lets you do image editing directly on the camera such as viewing, organizing, editing, retouching, printing, and more.

Meanwhile, for users of smartphones and tablets will be quite happy with the connectivity features NFC (Near Field Communications) which allows users to transfer photos and videos directly on the gadget. While the WiFi feature allows users to directly upload their photos and videos to various social media.

Performance & Image Quality

Sony Alpha A5000 using 20.1-Megapixels Exmor APS HD APS-C CMOS Sensor and powered by the BIONZ X Image Processor which is the same as Sony’s full-frame camera A7 and A7R. Besides being able to produce images with high resolution and quality, the combination between the sensor and the processor also allows ISO sensitivity range of 100-16000. The processor is also quite effective in minimizing image noise and gives high-speed recording of up to 3.5fps in Speed Priority Continuous mode.

For autofocus, Sony A5000 has a contrast detection autofocus system with 25 focus points. Perhaps the system was not as good as what is offered by the NEX-5T, where the camera offers two autofocus system, the phase detection and contrast detection autofocus autofocus.

Meanwhile, video recording capabilities owned by Sony A5000 allows users to record Full HD 1080i/p video at frame rate of 60 and 24fps. Video can be recorded in AVCHD format and is supported by the built-in stereo microphone for recording video sound in a format Dolby Digital AC-3. Users can also record video in sizes 1440 x 1080p, 1280 x 720p, 640 x 480p and can be saved in MP4 format.

Should I buy the camera?

Sony Alpha A5000 to be one of new interesting mirrorless camera features WiFi and NFC connectivity. Maybe this camera is not enough to be an upgrade option of mirrorless camera at this time, but enough to be one of the great choice if you want to buy a mirrorless camera because the price is quite affordable and better features than the previous camera as the sensor and its new processor.
