Sony A900 Reviews

AlphaMountWorld reviews the Sony A900 and writes;
“Bottom line, the A900’s strong points in my opinion are excellent resolution and dynamic range, about as good as you can get at any price. Color follows a close second when we are talking Jpeg output, which errs a bit on the saturated side just a tad.”
Rating: N/A

TrustedReviews reviews the Sony A900 and writes;
“The Sony Alpha A900 is an immensely impressive camera, equalling or surpassing its few rivals in almost every criterion with a combination of superb build quality, blistering performance and class-leading image quality.”
Rating: ★★★★½

PhotographyReview reviews the Sony A900 and writes;
“Image Quality is simply fantastic. As long as your sensitivity needs aren’t higher than ISO 3200 for nearly noise free images, the A900 will impress you with color gradation, excellent dynamic range, and mind boggling detail.”
Rating: N/A

DCI reviews the Sony A900 and writes;
“Burst mode shooting at a tested 4.4 shots per second is also very impressive,especially considering the fact that JPEG images run roughly 20 megabytes each, which is a lot of data to move quickly. Accurate color reproduction, though, is a problem for the A900, which scored poorly in our color testing and only so-so on white balance.”
Rating: N/A

ProPhoto reviews the Sony A900 and writes;
“The difference between using D-range optimization and not using it is quite noticeable. Even though the f-stop and shutter speed is the same in both of the model shots, with D-range optimization turned off, the image exhibits quite high contrast.”
Rating: N/A

RegHardware reviews the Sony A900 and writes;
“Performance-wise, the A900, produces the type of quality you’d expect from a camera of this type: very good indeed… This is a very good high-end DSLR that will please many users. That said, we think some potential buyers might be put off by the lack of one or two features.”
Rating: ★★★★½

GoodGearGuide reviews the Sony A900 and writes;
“Anyone looking to make the step up to a full-frame D-SLR should make a point of trying out the Sony A900. It’s a great camera to use and its performance on location and in the studio was excellent.”
Rating: ★★★★½

Shutterbug reviews the Sony A900 and writes;
“This camera is not lacking a single important feature and it’s particularly competent in terms of autofocus and off-camera flash photography. In my estimation, the A900 will meet the needs of virtually any photo enthusiast as well as some professional photographers.”

PhotographyBlog reviews the Sony A900 and writes;
“We do realise, however, that there are many photographers who will be more than happy with the AF system of the A900 as it is, and won’t miss Live View at all – which is why we do not hesitate to award this camera our highest Essential rating.”
Rating: ★★★★★

CNET reviews the Sony A900 and writes;
“The bottom line: A good first try at a pro-level camera, the Sony Alpha DSLR-A900 has the high resolution but unfortunately lacks some of the performance and usability you expect from a model in its price range.”
Rating: ★★★★☆

LuminousLandscape compares the Canon EOS 5D MK II to Sony A900 and writes;
” If you have very small hands then the 5D MKII is probably the preferable camera from a handling point of view. For those with larger hands, or who shoot with gloves on a great deal, the A900 might be a better choice.”

PCWorld reviews the Sony A900 and writes;
“I enjoyed using the Sony Alpha DSLR-A900, and for the most part I was very happy with its image quality. A full-frame 35mm sensor is indeed exciting, but I’m not convinced of this model’s value.”
Rating: ★★★★☆

DigitalTrends reviews the Sony A900 and writes;
“A900 is a terrific camera. It’s clearly for serious photographers who want excellent quality and are interested in making large prints and/or severe crops. It’s easy to recommend, but alas, not so easy to pay for “
Rating: ★★★★☆

LuminousLandscape reviews the Sony A900 and writes;
“Sony A900 offers tremendous value for the money. In almost every objective test criteria measured on DxOMark the A900 comes in in the top two or three… While not the king of any one hill, it is a sterling all-around performer in almost every category.”
Rating: N/A

LetsGoDigital reviews the Sony A900 and writes;
“Although color reproduction is not perfect and accurate, it will certainly be satisfactory. The resolution is high and is able to capture lots of details… The Sony approach of certain functionalities we take for granted, and we can’t but conclude that the Sony Alpha A900 is a valuable enhancement of the current DSLR market. “
Rating: ★★★★☆

PopPhoto reviews the Sony A900 and writes;
“Color? Not as accurate as most pro-level DSLRs — though, with an average Delta E of 9.0, it ranks Extremely High in our rating. Also, while noise remained at Very Low and Low through ISO 800, it rose to Moderately Low territory at ISO 1600, hit Moderate by ISO 3200, and reached Unacceptable at the top sensitivity of ISO 6400. “
Rating: N/A

CameraLabs reviews the Sony A900 and writes;
“the A900’s 24.6 Megapixel images certainly contain a lot of detail, but in our tests there wasn’t much difference between them and those from 21.1 Megapixel Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III… “

Rating: ★★★★½

BJP-Online reviews the Sony A900 and writes;
“Fine details show quite constant results from ISO100 to 400, with just some salt-and-pepper pixels visible. At ISO800 fine graphical structures turn slightly chromatic, which rises visibly at 1600 and 3200. Fine lines remain well modulated. “
Rating: N/A

ImagingResource reviews the Sony A900 and writes;
“Sony A900’s image quality is truly awe-inspiring… The Sony A900 is the current resolution leader in 35mm-equivalent digital SLR cameras, and it doesn’t look like that’s going to change soon.”

Sony A900 Review by CNET;

LuminousLandscape has posted a field report of the Sony Alpha A900 and writes;
“the noise levels are very good, in fact very similar to the Canon images. This is pleasing, although some fine detail, as mentioned above, may be masked by the in-camera NR…All things considered I’d have to give this camera a big thumbs up.

Sony A900 User Reviews

Sony Hits a Homerun | Rating: ★★★★★
“..I love this camera. It’s got big, bright viewfinder thanks to a pentaprism that reminds me of the Nikon F that I owned many years ago. It’s built solid as a brick – just like cameras were in the good old days… ” – by Brian

A Stunning Camera | Rating: ★★★★★
“The Sony A900 is a camera built for photographers. Wonderfully agile, great ergonomics and stunning image quality. It does require the high-end lenses to get the most out of that resolution though, so factor that into your budget. Both the 24-70 and 70-300 operate beautifully on the A900….” – by Mark
