The filter fitting is 55 mm in diameter, but there’s the option of fitted 72 mm diameter filters to the screw-in type Lens hood if you so desire, However, since the hood has a screw fitting it can be attached to the front of the smaller filters, and a polarizer can still be conveniently rotated. Internal focusing ensures the front element doesn’t rotate.

On the small format “APS-C” digital SLR, the Sigma lens has an effective focal length of 75mm or 80mm which is close to the popular macro focal length of 90mm.

Centre to-edge sharpness and brightness are uniformly high, and the lens delivers excellent colour and contrast. Importantly for a macro lens, good neutrality ensures the accurate reproduction of even the most subtle shades. Fine detailing in small objects ls beautifully reproduced with good definition. Distortion is well controlled with just a hint of pin-cushion ending evident if vertical lines are located immediately adjacent to the frame edges.
