REVIEWS (last update: 25.01.06)

ePhotozine reviewed the Sigma 50-500mm f/4-6.3 EX DG HSM and wrote:

“The ability of this lens to frame subjects with all their surroundings as well as an ability to pick out distant objects without moving your feet or changing lenses does have its attractions. The enormous standard to ultra-telephoto range of the lens, along with a decent performance and almost total lack of distortion makes this one well worth considering. If you are travelling and don’t want a sack-full of lenses it becomes almost indispensable!

The pros are built quality, focal range, well controlled distortion and CA, and price. While the Cons are the weight, slightly softer at shorter zooms with only a single socket on the tripod mount”

LoneStarDigital reviewed the Sigma 50-500mm f/4-6.3 EX DG HSM and wrote:

“For the price*, it can’t be beaten. High quality, high performance, crystal clear, sharp from edge to edge, lightning fast zoom & sure-footed autofocus lock. Because of its considerable size and weight, consider it as a 500mm telephoto that can zoom ‘backwards’ all the way down to 50mm. What huge flexibility! And what fun to use…”

VividLight reviewed the Sigma 50-500mm f/4-6.3 EX DG HSM and wrote:

“But what about the images? The discussion coming back up the Atlantic coast was that the lens had performed admirably in the field, but the quality of the images would be telling. Frankly we were very happy with the images. The were sharp and contrasty with good color saturation and no signs of color fringing when examined with a 22x loupe on a light table. Subsequent 13×19 prints confirmed these initial impressions.”
