Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro Reviews

Photodo reviews the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro and writes;
“It s slightly soft wide open, as the aperture closed down the lens produced very pleasing results and between f/8 and f/16 was in the area of razor sharp throughout the focal range Despite the strange zooming action the lens provided results well in keeping with expectations.”

Ephotozine reviews the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro and writes;
“This is a large lens that is well built and feels like it will go the distance. The zoom ring is surprisingly small for the size of the mechanism it has to move, but although a little heavy in operation, worked well.”

The-digital-picture reviews the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro and writes;
“The Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Lens is sharpest at the wide end of its focal length range. At 24/28mm, the 24-70 is very sharp in the center at f/3.2… Corners (1.6x FOVCF corners included) need an extra stop at all focal lengths to become very good – generally becoming very nice at f/5.6. “

User Opinions

Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro User Reviews

Just buy it | Rating: ★★★★★
“Some say it’s soft at f2.8. Not mine. Tack sharp at all focal lengths. Some say the Autofocus is noisy(loud.) Not mine. Or maybe I’m just not that picky. If noisy means you can hear it then…yeah it can be noisy. Some say that the autofocus hunts. Not mine. In fact this lens focuses so fast I was amazed. Color rendition is good. Contrast is good. Bokeh is nice and smooth. “ – by J. Martin

Excellent pro quality lens | Rating: ★★★★★
“While there are other lenses that might be better for portraits, this is an excellent all-around lens with a good zoom range for groups as well as portraits. The bokeh is really nice and the shallow depth of field offered by the f 2.8 is great. The build quality is very solid and the actions are very smooth. The image quality is excellent. “ – by John Stricklen

Love this Lens | Rating: ★★★★☆
“Very sharp. I cannot tell the difference between this and my Nikon at any f-stop. Although people have complained that this lens is soft at 2.8, I cannot see it. AF is quick enough for me, although USM would have been good.” – by Ken

My Most Used Lens Right Now | Rating: ★★★★☆
“I use this lens with Nikon D300.. The lens is very sharp at just about any aperture. I’m pleased with all the details I see in my images when I’m shooting buildings or other objects, as well as when I’m shooting people. In fact, I am sometimes amazed at the sharpness I get. “ – by I. Makarov

“The lens is sharp! Shooting under all types of conditions including flash and low light, I can somewhat confirm that there is a slight softness shooting with f/2.8. The lens becomes very sharp at f/4 and tack sharp at 5.6 to f/8 aperture… Build quality is good and in the upper class of pro lenses. It is a heavy and large lens but what do you expect if you want pro performance…This lens focused very fast and precise even in low light condition – no creeping and searching. Focusing is precise.” – by Herbie

A must have lens | Rating: ★★★★★
“Having used both the Canon 24-70L and this lens, I can safely say the Sigma wins hands down. The optic quality is as good, if not more sharp than the Canon. The focus is fast, and no where near as loud as I was expecting based on other reviews; it’s much quieter than the shutter of my 40D. “ – by M. Chagnon

Not a bad lens, a little soft, but very affordable | Rating: ★★★★☆
“The build quality seems good, it feels solid in your hands and the focus and zoom rings have enough, but not too much resistance. I see no zoom creep, but that may happen after some usage. There’s a zoom lock though so that will not be too much of a problem. “ – by K. D. Odom

Excellent lens | Rating: ★★★★★
“This lens is great for the price. It’s sharp, fast and the colors are excellent. The only draw back is it is heavy. After wearing it around your neck for a few hours you can really feel it. But it’s all worth it. It produces perfect pictures.” – by Tiffany

Like an L, but cheaper | Rating: ★★★★★
“The lower price point could be compared to the low end Canon lenses. Fairly quality glass for the price you pay, but very under built (plastic). The higher end lens can be compared to almost the L. Very well built, internal zoom, and HSM for quiet and fast zoom. This lens could be compared to a mid level Canon EF lens. Very well built, just lacking the bells and whistles of the high-end version. “ – by Emrys Roberts
