After having waited specifically for the WB5000 to be launched we recieved it just before our holiday. The problems started 2 weeks later with a line appearing down the screen. We returned it and got a new one. Our vacation provided many great picture opportunities and on the whole it was a great dissapointment.

The picture quality was poor in auto mode and we found it took ages to focus and actually take the picture. There is no action shot feature on the camera and using manual mode did speed up the process but one had to be vigilant to adjust settings according to light. A friend on holliday with us had a Nikon D5000 and when we compared pics we began to realise that we had made a big mistake with this camera. On top of that another line appeared on our screen and that was all we needed to take the camera back for a refund and buy a proper camera. (the Nikon)

In my opinion even if you're an amateur, if you want great photos don't waste your time, spend a bit more and get a DSLR, if you get an 18 - 250mm lens you will have the same or better zoom verstaility as the superzooms but with 10x the quality and versatility.
