I love this lens for portraits
“I have to double check my D7000 to be sure that I have the focus spot on. The closest aperture lens I have are Nikon 35mm 1.8 and Nikon 50mm 1.8. The bokeh that this lens creates blows away my other lenses. The aperture priority and manual focus sensor work on my camera. Unbeatable bokeh on a Nikon D5100
“Note also this does not have image stabilization. However, it doesn’t really need it on a D5100 for two reasons: The light gathering is just so beefy with the lens and the fact the D5100 can take very high quality solid images up to ISO3200. “The focus is very smooth and personally at f1.4 I didn’t find any issues getting sharp images throughout 1mtr to infinity. Being there is only about 180degrees of focus play dialing in quick even with moving subjects is easy, would really be great shooting video as it’s smooth and tight.” – By Justin P

Great lens for micro four thirds bodies with IS
“Manual focus in available-light may be just what the doctored ordered for the PEN E-P1 since its auto-focus ability is not considered a strong point in low-light. Shooting at F1.4, F2.0, or F2.8 with in-body IS leaves plenty of shutter-speed headroom, resulting in bright, stable images even in what may be considered marginal conditions.” – By fair review

“This lens really is a gem! It is remarkably sharp wide open as long as you focus accurately. The focus ring is a little stiff, but works very smoothly with no play at all. Lens build is pretty solid, only the lens cap and hood feel kind of cheap. Bokeh with this lens is gorgeous, even stopped down.” – by M. Zwiesler

My first manual focus lens after 20 years break
“Focus: it’s easy to achieve by using Live View with magnification and tripod or focus-confirm chip. You could stop a lens down to 2.0 to achieve more DOF to ease the task… Sharpness: Little soft to my taste when wide open (and comparable to Rokkor at F/1.7), VERY sharp stopped down starting from F/2.0. Common phrase but that is it. You could sharpen final image shot at F/1.4 in Photoshop, but I like DxO output more…” – by (nama reviewer)
