Photographing Silver Jewellery Discussion

Sally, one of our online photo community members, writes;

Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone has any useful advice for me. I run my own online jewellery boutique and I need to redo all of the photos on my website. The problem I have when photographing silver is that it tends to look gold in the photos. I honestly do not know how to use my camera like I should, I have tried reading the booklet, but it’s all Russian to me =) I have a Casio EX-Z75.

My questions are:

What are the ideal settings?
What sort of lighting should I use, and if using natural sunlight, would it be better to have it behind me when taking the photo, or behind the photo I am taking a picture of?
Any other advice would be greatly appreciated =)

You should rework the photos in a photoshop program- even elements is good. That is what I use. I photograph jewelry and am not a professional by any means.

There’s a good article on DocumentLab about using Photoshop to make photos of silver jewelry shine
