Pentax X70 Reviews

GoodGearGuide reviews the Pentax X70 and writes;
“I found image quality less than impressive, especially when shooting at the telephoto end of the spectrum, but the X70 did score above average in its PC World lab tests when compared with similarly priced point-and-shoots (cameras in $400 to $500 range).”
Rating: ★★★★☆

PCW reviews the Pentax X70 and writes;
Good points: Light and small for its class; long lens range means lots of shooting options; colourful and crisp results with no processing required. Bad points: Some purple fringing; no zoom in movie mode; no HDMI connection”
Rating: ★★★★☆

ITReviews reviews the Pentax X70 and writes;
“still photo quality is very impressive, both in terms of sharpness and colour authenticity, and you do have the option to manually alter further the degrees of saturation, sharpness and contrast.”

PocketLint reviews the Pentax X70 and writes;
“Like many big zoom cameras that try and do it all, there’s as much here to delight as disappoint. The wider creative possibilities offered by that broader focal range shouldn’t be underestimated, and, once used, going back to that 3x zoom compact will seem tough”
Rating: ★★★½☆

PhotographyBlog reviews the Pentax X70 and writes;
“Pentax X70′s performance is no great shakes, with noise creeping in from ISO 400 upwards in interior shots taken without the aid of flash. Taking photographs in low light at settings up to ISO 800, results are usable…”
Rating: ★★★★☆

NeoCamera reviews the Pentax X70 and writes;
“Overall, the Pentax X70 does well. Being happy with it means understanding its limitations but as an outdoor camera with an incredible reach, it is a good one. Add the occasional use of its HD video-recording feature to the mix and its versatility shines..”
Rating: ★★★★☆

CNET reviews the Pentax X70 and writes;
“The good: Sharper photos than most megazoom cameras; plenty of shooting options; straightforward operation. The bad: Slow performance; no full-resolution continuous shooting; crippled HD movie recording; noise even at lowest ISO sensitivities. The bottom line: Slow performance and photo quality concerns stop the otherwise very good Pentax X70 from being a winning megazoom.”
Rating: ★★★½☆

MacWorld reviews the Pentax X70 and writes;
“I found image quality less than impressive, especially when shooting at the telephoto end of the spectrum, but the X70 did score about average in our lab’s jury results for image quality. Image noise became an issue when zoomed any tighter than 6X, and photos taken in the “Intelligent Zoom” range were so noisy they were basically useless. That said, many megazooms have similar issues..”

PhotoReview reviews the Pentax X70 and writes;
“The image stabilisation system was effective for movie capture as for stills and, for the latter, enabled us to use shutter speeds as slow as 1/6 second with a focal length of 19.6mm. Movie quality was good in VGA mode but average with the HD settings, which were often affected by colour casts and aberrations, particularly when shooting slightly backlit subjects.”
Rating: ★★★★☆

PCWorld reviews the Pentax X70 and writes;
“So what makes the X70 stand out? Its compact size, low weight, 11fps rapid-fire mode, and terrific usability. The Pentax X70 is smaller and lighter than nearly every other camera in its class”
Rating: ★★★★☆

TrustedReviews reviews the Pentax X70 and writes;
“The Pentax X70 is a good quality camera from one of the big names in the business, and is capable of producing good pictures over a huge zoom range thanks to an excellent image stabilisation system. It handles well, and is smaller and lighter than most of its competitors, however it has a serious problem with noise even at moderate ISO settings… “

Steve’sDigicams reviews the Pentax X70 and writes;
“The majority of our outdoor photos are tac sharp with excellent exposure and vivid colors…When shooting indoors, the X70 also performed very well. Pentax claims the built-in pop-up flash has a range of about 29 feet at wide angle using ISO Auto. This is above average for a camera in this category “
Rating: N/A

DCR reviews the Pentax X70 and writes;
“This is even a great intermediary camera for the casual shooter who wants to move up to a better class of camera than a typical point-and-shoot. All things considered and tested, the Pentax X70 is a worthy competitor in the ultrazoom market. “

ePhotozine reviews the Pentax X70 and writes;
“For the first camera in the superzoom range, Pentax have done quite well. I think they’ve started as they mean to go on by putting one of the largest zooms available in the camera. A lot of the other features are found on basic compacts and I think are simply there to bulk the camera out and keep it uniform with the rest of the range. “

Nice Camera, Zoom Is Fantastic! | Rating: ★★★☆☆
“Pros: Superb zoom capability, Vivid life like colors, Decent video quality. Camera is very light & lots of nice features to help novices like me take great photos! Cons: The battery is tiny, supposedly it will hold charge for 170 photos (50 of those flash) or 70 minutes of video. (I ‘ll do an update on this.) No raw image capability
No flash hot shoe (though the on-board flash is very good)…. “

Good beginners camera | Rating: ★★★★☆
“The pentax x70 is a good little camera, if you are a beginner or want a camera that has a descent super zoom. The first thing I notice when I took it out of the box was, it is very light weight. The functions took some getting use too after a few days of shooting with it. Overall this camera perform quiet well for what I use it for, which is taking distant pictures of wildlife and taking using the macro mode, which I will give it 5 stars…. “ – by Ronnie
