Pentax SMC PDA 16-45mm f/4 ED AL Reviews
Photo.net reviews the Pentax SMC PDA 16-45mm f/4 ED AL and writes;
“Overall, the Pentax SMC DA 16-45mm f/4.0 ED/AL is a very nice lens that could find it’s way into any photographer’s Pentax DSLR camera bag. It is priced so that a beginner would consider it as an upgrade to their “kit” lens. Yet it also has the image quality and well built construction that would give the more experienced photographer reasons to purchase it as well. When comparing its price to its image quality, the 16-45 is a very good value. “
Photozone reviews the Pentax SMC PDA 16-45mm f/4 ED AL and writes;
“The resolution figures indicate a very good resolution characteristic throughout the zoom range. Distortions and vignetting are quite typical for a good APS-C standard zoom… The build quality of the lens is about in line to the rest of the gang. Both AF speed and accuracy are very good on the K10D. “

Excellent value | Rating:
“It is not the most solid built zoom, but it does fine for wide angle to normal scenics at f8-f11. The color and constrast are very good. Close ups are easy also. For much more cash I am sure more resolution might be available, and possibly more edge detail, but I intend to use the cash for primes later “ – by DLBeaty
THIS LENS JUSTIFIES THE HYPE ABOUT IT. | Rating:
“More specifically, optically it is everything they say it is: superb. My quibbles are two-fold, and may be unjustified. First, the lens is not built like the very best lenses — too much plastic! Then again, the lens costs about $250, which makes it an incredible bargain for this quality of glass.” – by Tabulrasa
A “Good Enough” Classic | Rating:
“the primes are better — they have better corners, less vignetting, more overall contrast, an indefinable “snap” that gives the primes what I think of as the Pentax Look. And yes, the zoom does have an optical flaw: blue/yellow fringing where bright and dark areas are juxtaposed. (Seldom a problem, but it’s there.) I’m hanging on to my primes. “ – by Quinbus
Great lens, great price | Rating:
“For the constant f 4.0 and quality of this glass along with the sharpness and color you just can’t go wrong. I just love the quality and fair prices of pentax products! I just can’t wait to do some night shooting with it. “ – by R. Wisor
Great Lens | Rating:
“Great wide zoom lens for K20D. Have had great results with the lens for landscape photography. Colors are wonderful. Excellent sharpness and detail. Was a great pick compared to kit lens. “ – by frkshnwa
One of the best kit lens on the market | Rating:
“I love this lens for its wide angle, excellent sharpness, low distortion, overall excellent image quality. It is one of reasons I still use my Pentax K100D. I have Canon XT and 18-55/3.5-5.6/IS Lens. I have to say Canon has lots of good cameras and excellent lenses. But Pentax 16-45/4.0 is way better than Canon 18-55/IS, and way way better than 18-55/non-IS lens (I cannot understand why people want to pay $50 for a used Canon 18-55/non-IS, which is very poor and cheap-made lens).” – by J. Great lens, great value. | Rating:
“Comparing this lens to two primes, the Pentax FA50 and the Pentax FA35, yes this zoom lens is good but it is not as good as those primes. When I say good I mean detail, clarity, bokeh, color, etc. The primes are better, as is to be expected. The strength of the 16mm wide angle and the overall versatility helps me forget about that though. After all it is a zoom lens.” – by tela
“I Love It” | Rating:
“I purchased this lens a few months ago and I have enjoyed it very much. Although if you use a built in flash it will leave a shadow in the picture. The wide angle works great for group shots. Great buy for the price. “ – by L. Jorden
