Pentax Optio A30 Reviews

CNET.UK reviews the Pentax Optio A30 and writes;
“Prefocus the A30 and there’s no appreciable shutter lag. Processing is much slower at more than 2.5 seconds between shots, while in continuous mode the A30 manages 1 frame per second. The only real speed gripe is the inteminable wait for the A30 to turn on, complete with onscreen Pentax logo that can’t be disabled.”
Rating: ★★★½☆

DigitalCameraInfo reviews the Pentax Optio A30 and writes;
This design lacks a grip or handle for one-handed shooting comfort. The A30’s back face is largely consumed by a 2.5-inch LCD screen. This camera isn’t going to win any design awards, but what it lacks in stunning layout it makes up for in straightforward functionality and shooting ease… With inaccurate colors, high noise levels, limited dynamic range, and terrible video quality, this camera isn’t worth the $350 price tag.”

Stuff.TV reviews the Pentax Optio A30 and writes;
“While this camera is far from the worst we’ve seen in that respect, ramping the setting up does produce a degree of noise that may not be to your taste, especially if you are likely to blow the image up above the standard 6×4 size”
Rating: ★★★★☆

TrustedReviews reviews the Pentax Optio A30 and writes;
“At low ISO settings (64-200) the level of fine detail, the edge sharpness and the richness of the colour rendition were among the best I’ve seen from a compact camera…The Optio A30 is Pentax’s best ultra-compact camera to date, combining stylish design, excellent build quality, easy handling and much improved performance, with outstanding picture quality and a comprehensive set of features including many unusual and useful options. It is a superb camera and one which puts Pentax firmly back into contention at the top of the market.”

ITReviews reviews the Pentax Optio A30 and writes;
“It comes in a stylish, credit card-sized, black, aluminium casing and weighs a mere 4.6oz without battery and memory card installed. Using a maximum 10 effective megapixels with a 1/1.8-inch CCD, a wide light-sensitive area for superior tone reproduction and an SMC Pentax zoom lens with a 3x optical zoom, this is a high quality camera for both beginners and those who want a degree of manual control.”
Rating: ★★★★☆

Megapixel reviews the Pentax Optio A30 and writes;
“With its classical looks, the Pentax Optio A30, is an elegant and attractive camera. Used outdoors and with bright light, it easily yields images of excellent quality and colour that can be printed out to a large size. Simple to use and equipped with a resolution that is often considerably more than is needed, the Pentax Optio A30 has the advantage of offering a good image stabilization system and a short reaction time to its controls, both crucial features when capturing subjects such as children, or even pets.”
Rating: ★★★★☆

DigitalCameraReview reviews the Pentax Optio A30 and writes;
“Pentax lists a battery life of 150 shots for the A30, but my experience fell well short of that figure – I got about 100 shots before the battery died. I was doing a lot of menu surfing to learn and try the many features on the camera, and this no doubt caused battery life to suffer. Folks who are accustomed to the camera and just shoot will probably come much closer to the stated performance, but if I was going on an all-day shoot with the A30 I’d have several spare batteries. The A30 can’t accept alternate battery types such as AA or AAA.”

Pocket-Lint reviews the Pentax Optio A30 and writes;
“On the surface and for the average digital photographer the A30 is a great camera that is both stylish and easy to use. However as soon as you start to delve deeper you see that Pentax is merely number chasing in an attempt to make sure it has a 10 megapixel offering. While image quality from afar is fantastic, on closer inspection its noise filled. Furthermore, the introduction of a 3200 ISO setting is so crazy, that like newspapers keen to have a bigger page supplement in order to beat the competition, we get the feeling that Pentax is doing the same here, just making sure its one up on the competition.”
Rating: ★★★½☆

Steve’sDigicams reviews the Pentax Optio A30 and writes;
“The overall image quality of the A30’s 10M *** mode was ok. While it did produce images with good exposure, and color saturation, I noticed some edge softness on the left hand side of several of our samples as well as vignetting (darkening at the corners of the frame.) Image noise is almost nonexistent at ISO 100 and below, becoming more noticeable as you increase the sensitivity…Pentax has made a great improvement over the A10 from last year. With 10-megapixels, 3x optical zoom, Shake Reduction technology, a durable all-metal body and plenty of exposure modes, the Optio A30 is an appealing “ultra-compact” model.”
