Personally, I really like pancake lenses for its compact size and light weight. The most important thing for a photographer is not to frighten their own subjects during photography.

The pancakes are stuck with me for a long time!

Pentax is really onto something dear to this travel photog's heart - seriously compact quality lenses. I cringe when I see other travelers cradling these huge 77-filter-size zooms like a drunk protecting his bottle. Pentax's 21mm pancake lens would handle 70% of my shooting needs, the K20D with this lens (or the 70mm) would fit nicely into a bag, and not shout "showoff foreigner with a "bigger is better" photographic contraption. In fact,Pentax may well be the thing that pries this geezer away from his old film SLR's and Leica CL, before decreasing availability of film and processing does this, anyway. .
