Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF5 Reviews

Photographyblog reviews the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF5 and writes;
“This latest generation of Lumix G takes things a stage further than its predecessor in terms of still image quality, with a usable ISO range of 160-1600 and good results even at 3200.”
Rating: ★★★★½

Techradar reviews the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF5 and writes;
“The low price makes the Panasonic GF5 one of the best compromises on the market between compact size and high image quality. It’s one of the only cameras that is truly (jacket) pocketable and portable enough to be carried around on a daily basis, while still managing to offer fantastic image quality and a solid feature set.”
Rating: ★★★★☆

T3 reviews the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF5 and writes;
“Unless you’re struggling in reduced light, picture quality is reliably consistent from shot to shot, so getting sharp and vibrantly colourful results really is just as easy as pointing and shooting.”
Rating: ★★★★☆

CNET reviews the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF5 and writes;
“Video quality is fine for typical consumer use — vacation clips, cat antics, kiddie goal-scoring and so on. If you look closely you can see some edge artifacts and there’s some rolling shutter (wobble), but the exposures are good and you can tell what’s going on in low light. The full-time autofocus pulses a bit, but works well enough.”
Rating: ★★★½☆

Expertreviews reviews the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF5 and writes;
“Autofocus performance was extremely quick. This is one area where Panasonic still holds a comfortable lead over Sony’s NEX cameras. Rapid-fire shooting in the Single drive mode started enthusiastically, providing just 0.6 seconds between shots, but the camera couldn’t save them as fast is it captured them.”
Rating: ★★★☆☆

Imaging-resource reviews the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF5 and writes;
“The power zoom lens is great for videos, offering variable speed and making it really easy to adjust the zoom during video capture without shaking the camera.”

Photoreview reviews the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF5 and writes;
“Auto white balance performance was similar to the G5′s. The warm cast produced by incandescent lighting was suppressed but not eliminated but shots taken under fluorescent lights had close to natural colours. Both pre-sets introduced a slight purple cast but manual measurement produced neutral colours and there’s plenty of scope for fine-tuning colour rendition via the touch screen.”
Rating: ★★★★☆

Pocket-lint reviews the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF5 and writes;
“One of the headline claims of the Lumix GF5 is the 0.09-second autofocus time. It’s certainly quick to focus and our initial impression is that it’s clever enough to pick out what you want in focus. Manual focus is easy to use too, and the magnified focusing view used in conjunction with the manual rocker on the Lumix G X lens works very nicely.”
rating: N/A

Ephotozine reviews the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF5 and writes;
“The Panasonic Lumix GF5 is certainly a noticable upgrade to the GF3 with the camera giving more features, controls and options as well as improving on ease-of-use and camera quality. The camera feels more comfortable to hold and the improved metal buttons are pleasing to use.”
rating: N/A

Features

Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF5 Features

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF5 is the new compact system camera that replaces the previous GF3 model. It comes with 12.1-Megapixel Live MOS Sensor and the Lumix Venus Engine image processor are the foundations on which this advanced yet understandable camera are built. The Venus Engine image processor has been renovated for the DMC-GF5. With a combination of 3DNR (3D Noise Reduction) and MNR (Multi-process Noise Reduction), both bright and dark areas are faithfully reproduced with minimum noise. Improved focusing and processing speeds equals more shots and faster display even in Intelligent Auto mode or with long zoom lenses attached.

The image processor provides selective noise reduction to image edges for a more naturally balanced curve without deterioration of resolution within the detailed areas, such as hair or clothing patterns. Spot-type noise in the dark area of an image or color bleeding in a bright area is further suppressed by the Venus Engine processor. Furthermore, image details are preserved by synthesizing the data with resolution priority for the edges and NR (noise reduction) priority for the smooth aspects of the image. The result is an image with stunning clarity even if shot in low-light situations.

The DMC-GF5 is able to record beautiful Full HD (1920 x 1080) videos in AVCHD format. The AVCHD format features almost twice the recording time in HD quality than the conventional Motion JPEG and is directly compatible with AV devices like HDTVs or Blu-ray Disc players. You can view your photos and videos on the large 3.0-inch monitor with 920K-dot of resolution featuring a field of view of approximately 100%. The DMC-GF5 offers both ease and sensibility in touchscreen operation. The touch-control system lets you set focus by just touching the focus spot on the screen and a wide viewing angle lets you frame and view your shot in a variety of angles.
