Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX48/FX40 Reviews
ComputerActive reviews the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX48/FX40 and writes;
“A camera with plenty of features, but a couple of minor flaws. Good points: Pocket sized dimensions and sturdy build; long zoom; easy to use and responsive. Bad points: Low-light performance unremarkable; can’t zoom when recording movies; fairly expensive”
PhotographyBlog reviews the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX48/FX40 and writes;
“we’d recommend your cash is better spent on that model if a camera that’s equally portable but even more user friendly and, for us, reliable, appeals. In comparison the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX40 can only feel, well, pretty average, hence its overall score.”
Pocket-Lint reviews the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX48/FX40 and writes;
“results are slightly on the warm side as a default and, for our money, could do with being slightly sharper still. Whilst whether that’s a good or bad thing comes down to personal taste, we found white balance thrown on occasion by a dominance of one colour in the scene, and fringing is readily apparent”
TechRadar reviews the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX48/FX40 and writes;
“The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX40 is an appealing camera that has a great viewfinder and excellent image quality. However, the rather retro buttons and awkward menu system detract from what otherwise would be an award-winning compact camera. “
Steve’sDigicams reviews the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX48/FX40 and writes;
” While the FX48 offers some very appealing features, great HD video mode, and a nice wide lens, its image quality and performance results are not quite up to par with other models in this price range.”
Cameras.uk reviews the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX48/FX40 and writes;
” Panasonic Lumix DMC FX40 takes bright colourful pictures. I found the pictures could start to soften round the edges and is likely to start to show as you make larger prints. Aside from that point I like the features and ease of use the camera offers. “
PCMag reviews the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX48/FX40 and writes;
” The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX48 is a good choice only if ease of use is a top priority. The camera’s compact build, obvious buttons, and clean interface won’t cause confusion or headaches, but its photos won’t satisfy you if image quality is paramount. “
InfoSync reviews the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX48/FX40 and writes;
” We did experience exceptional Macro detail and colors were not too shabby at all. However, at times we had to employ the Vivid filter since the Lumix DMC-FX48 lacked the out-of-the-box vibrancy delivered by the Canon PowerShot SD970 IS and PowerShot SD780 IS. “
DigicamReview reviews the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX48/FX40 and writes;
” Image quality is very good – with excellent colour, and high levels of saturation, contrast and detail. Noise levels were average, with results good at ISO400 or below and prints made from this camera looked excellent, with very good detail.”
CNET.asia reviews the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX48/FX40 and writes;
“The bottom line: The FX48 has a suite of features that amateurs will appreciate, especially the clever iA mode which does a great job at recognizing faces and optimizing exposure settings for the best shot. However, the slow startup time and slightly soft pictures will not go down well with fussy shutterbugs.”

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX48/FX40 Press Release
Panasonic is pleased to introduce the new Lumix 12.1-megapixel DMC-FX48 with astonishing 25mm ultra-wide-angle* LEICA DC lens and powerful 5x optical zoom (equivalent to 25mm to 125mm on a 35mm film camera), which captures almost double the viewing space at the same shooting distance compared to ordinary 35mm cameras, resulting in remarkable images with unprecedented width and depth. The world-acclaimed FX series pursues high picture quality and unique features in an urbane, sophisticated profile to which the DMC-FX48 proudly joins.
Panasonic’s iA (Intelligent Auto) mode — a hallmark of Lumix cameras — has been further advanced in the FX48. It now offers a Face Recognition feature, an advanced Face Recognition function that recognizes individual faces, making it a kind of personal verification system in a camera. The user can give auto focus and auto exposure priority to a single person in a group of people, ensuring that a loved one’s face will be captured beautifully. Also, the AF tracking lets the camera keep the subject in focus and well-exposed even if it moves around. Once you enter iA mode, these functions happen automatically together with other powerful shooting-assist functions so you can shoot without the bother of adjusting settings every time conditions change. You can enjoy easy, trouble-free shooting in any situation and get the satisfaction that comes with capturing clear, beautiful images.
The newly developed Venus Engine V integrates these advanced functions and controls camera operation with high speed, high performance, and low power consumption. Despite its slim profile, the battery life is extended to astonishing 350 pictures (CIPA) so that you never have to worry about running out of the power in a day.
The DMC-FX48 can shoot high-definition 1280 x 720p motion images at 30 fps with outstanding detail. Using the DMW-HDC2 HD Component Cable (available separately), these motion images can be output directly to a TV for large-screen viewing.
Dressed in a panel with distinctive finish or texture according to its color, the sleek and slim DMC-FX48, a sophisticated camera full of futuristic functions, offers the desirable enjoyment of taking snapshots with a fantastic view and fun. The DMC-FX48 will be available in silver, black, pink, white, red and gold*.
