Olympus Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Reviews

Photoreview reviews the Olympus Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 and writes;
“Lateral chromatic aberration ranged from low to moderate across all focal length settings. Barrel distortion was evident at the 14mm and 18mm focal lengths but by 25mm it had disappeared. No pincushioning was detectable at the 42mm focal length setting. Vignetting (corner darkening) was quite pronounced at the widest aperture at 14mm but had become negligible by 25mm. Backlighting was generally well handled and flare was surprisingly low. Bokeh was more attractive than we expected from a lens of this type, although it was difficult to obtain out-of-focus backgrounds with the relatively small maximum apertures available at all focal lengths.”
Rating: ★★★★☆

Photozone reviews the Olympus Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 and writes;
“The Olympus Zuiko Digital 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 ED is a great little lens. Technically it has no significant flaws – it is very sharp at all mainstream aperture settings. The amount of vignetting at 14mm @ f/3.5 could be a little better maybe but then this is rather typical in this class. Distortions and lateral CAs are well controlled.”

Popphoto reviews the Olympus Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 and writes;
“As expected, SQF data were in Excellent ranges of the three tested focal lengths. According to DxO Analyzer 2.0 tests, barrel distortion was in the Visible range at 14mm (0.48%) and Imperceptible at 25mm and 42mm (0.09% and 0.01%, respectively) — noticeably better than the 14-45mm Zuiko, which showed Visible (at 14mm and 25mm) and Slight barrel distortion (45mm).”

Olympus Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 User Reviews

Excellent Kit Lens | Rating: ★★★★☆
“Very sharp for a kit lens, very light, very small. Good focal range (28-84mm full-frame equivalent), really well built for a plastic lens.. This lens is so light and small that even if you have better ones, you should still have it in your camera bag as a backup. As a primary “walk-around” lens, it’s more than up to the task. “ – by D. Nguyen

Smaller and lighter than its predecessor, | Rating: ★★★★☆
“The technical reviews suggest that this lens produces images that are sharper in the corners at full aperture than its predecessor. But what I do know for sure, is that although the near-focusing distance is about 1 foot, I was able to produce a sharp image (in Macro setting) at 5 inches on my E-330!!” – by Eugene D. Tunick

Olympus SLR Telephoto Lens, | Rating: ★★★★★
“The lens arrived in near perfect packaging and excellent condition. It has operated flawlessly in all environments and circomstances to date. To obtain this lens in “like new” condition at this price is astounding. I will certainly return to Amazon for future equipment perchases and make it the standard by which other on-line markets are judged.Olympus ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens for Olympus Digital SLR Cameras” – by Thomas Patterson

Olympus 14-42mm Lens | Rating: ★★★★☆
“It is very sharp and optically superior to the Canon and Nikon equivalent kit lenses. It is also very small and works great with one of Olympus’ small form factor cameras such as the E-420. The combination is about as small as it gets in the dslr world and makes it a great traveling companion.” – by Eldred Reaney
