PhotographyBlog reviews the Olympus ED M40-150mm f/4.0-5.6 and writes;
“The Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm f/4-5.6 is a tiny, lightweight and attractively priced telezoom lens that delivers a much better optical performance than its all-plastic exterior and wallet-friendly price tag would suggest. In fact it is entirely usable wide open..”

Solid Lens made from plastic
“The lens itself is EXTREMELY light, weights the same almost as my pancake. when zoomed out though gets very long. At 150mm its not the camera that’s a problem, just my ability to hold it steady without a tripod. The lens feels well made when zooming and focusing the lens, but at times you will get by the, it feels plastic cheap. Let me assure you though, that nothing is plastic cheap about it, the zoom is firm and well made, not loose at all. the fit onto the camera is perfect, and picture quality is superb! for a budget lens this is a GREAT starter zoom lens to start off with. I would buy it again for this price! “ – by K. Ahmed

Excellent, lightweight medium tele lens
“Let me first say that I own an Olympus system with two E-3, and several HG lenses. I also have the excellent 14-54 and 50-200 SWD lenses. I bought the E-PL1 with the two lens kit (14-42 and 40-150) to supplement my “big” system to take along on hikes. The complete kit with both lenses weigh about as much as just the E-3 body and the image quality is about on par. This 40-150 lens is a jewel. It is very light and very sharp if used at f5.6. It compares extremely well with its big brother (50-200), except in contrast which I can correct with software. It matches the E-PL series cameras very well in size and weight and with the 14-42 makes a perfect travel companion, especially for hiking.” – by John M. Kubler

Great lens for a great price
“Using this on my E-PL1, its a great addition if you only have the kit 14-42mm lens. Its not a super fast lens at all, but outdoors this thing shines. It is easy to use, and the fact that it collapses as small as it does is great as well. Its a full inch and a half shorter than my old 75-150mm OM SLR lens, is about half the weight, and has far superior optics. Be warned, it IS made of plastic, but in the end, if you don’t abuse it, it will be fine. It does not feel cheap in any way, shape or form.” – by Ian Case
