Olympus E-520 Reviews

ImagingResource reviews the Olympus E-520 and writes;
“While we weren’t able to give the E-420 a ringing endorsement, we think the E-520′s feature set and image quality warrant a Dave’s Pick, thanks to the very good optical quality and printed results.”

Megapixel reviews the Olympus E-520 and writes;
“The E-520 takes very good indoor pictures with its pop-up flash. Images were, in most cases, evenly exposed and free of “wash out.”"
Rating: ★★★★☆

PhotographyReview reviews the Olympus E-520 and writes;
“Although it doesn’t have the best image quality of the bunch, the camera I used the most this year was the E-520. For me, the E-520 strikes the best balance between camera size, handling, and image quality.”

PopPhoto reviews the Olympus E-520 and writes;
“WHAT’S HOT: Excellent imaging at every ISO, Live view mode previews your settings, Very effective IS, It dives-with the PT-E05 ($830, street) body case. WHAT’S NOT: Not-so-sensitive AF, Clunky RAW-to- JPEG editing, Menus can seem like a maze, Settings could use streamlining.”

DCRP reviews the Olympus E-520 and writes;
“the Olympus E-520 is a good, but not spectacular digital SLR. Whether you’re a first-time D-SLR buyer or someone moving up from an older model, it offers excellent value for your money. I can certainly recommend the E-520…”

BuyNShoot reviews the Olympus E-520 and writes;
Overall image quality was rated very high with fine colour reproduction, while noise among the higher range of ISO does become obvious… This is a good transitional camera for anyone wanting to progress to DSLR for the first time although it does have some minor limitations that should be considered and, I imagine in many cases, overlooked.”
Rating: ★★★★☆

Pocket-Lint reviews the Olympus E-520 and writes;
“A superb feature set and great handling plus great image quality are combined in a camera that is a great price and available in a variety of lens kits to suit almost any photographers desires.”
Rating: ★★★★½

PhotoReview.au reviews the Olympus E-520 and writes;
“Exposure metering was accurate provided light levels were reasonably high. However, long exposures at night were consistently slightly under-exposed, as were flash shots in low light levels. Autofocusing was also reasonably fast and accurate under most shooting conditions”
Rating: ★★★★½

PhotographyBlog reviews the Olympus E-520 and writes;
“Photographers who like to make big, detailed prints will be delighted to hear that the E-520, with the right Noise Filter setting applied, will retain most details right up to its highest sensitivity settings..The Olympus E-520 is a camera that I can recommend to beginners and enthusiasts alike… ”

DigitalCameraInfo reviews the Olympus E-520 and writes;
Likes: Solid comfortable construction, Good color accuracy test results, Auto focus in Live View mode, Large number of image presets, High level of control and customizability for advanced users. LetsGoDigital reviews the Olympus E-520 and writes;
“The image quality of the Olympus E-520 is solid as a rock, leaving no other option than to go to the closest dealer and make your acquaintance with this camera. How that will work out, is up to you, we have been convinced already! A recommendable camera! ”
Rating: ★★★★½

CameraLabs reviews the Olympus E-520 and writes;
“…the E-520 remains a serious contender. Indeed while the competition now offers some key features you should carefully weigh-up, we can still confidently award the E-520 the Highly Recommended rating of its predecessor. If you’re shopping for a new DSLR at this price-point, it should be on your shortlist.”

Rating: ★★★★½

DigitalCameraReview reviews the Olympus E-520 and writes;
” the E-520 may well be the most flexible consumer DSLR we’ve reviewed this year: whereas the Nikon D60 proved to be an excellent first SLR, and new models from Canon and Pentax have aimed to appeal to a slightly more advanced audience, the E-520 does both at once.”
Rating: N/A

TrustedReviews reviews the Olympus E-520 and writes;
“Image quality is generally good. Olympus sensors and lenses work well together to optimise the sharpness and detail within images. Colour and exposure too are generally well maintained, though the camera does on occasions underexpose a little, but this has the benefit of maintaining highlight detail, especially in contrasty conditions.”
Rating: ★★★★☆

Biofos reviews the Olympus E-520 and writes;
“At ISO=800 the image is holding up very well but you cannot deny noise is present in the very darkest areas and speckling of lighter areas; at ISO=1600 you can readily see the quite intrusive speckling of noise but to my eyes it is not that distracting and is no worse than film grain would be at ISO800 and does not unduly detract from the image.”
Rating: N/A

ePhotozine reviews the Olympus E-520 and writes;
“When using Live View the focusing is sluggish, always going out of focus first before it settles…Image proceesing is superb, noise minimal, sharpness is good, exposures are 100% and the IS system is a lifesaver. Overall a very impressive piece of kit worthy of its price. ”
Rating: ★★★★½

Olympus E-520 Press Release

CENTER VALLEY, Pa., May 13, 2008 – The new Olympus E-520 digital single lens reflex (DSLR) camera delivers brilliant images thanks to advanced technologies that help take the blur out. Industry leading Image Stabilization built into the portable camera body compensates for movement so that images are sharp and blur-free with any lens and even at slow shutter speeds. Autofocus Live View brings subjects into sharp focus on the camera’s HyperCrystal™ II LCD. Together, these technologies produce amazing results, along with the following features that further expand the DSLR experience:

* In-Body Image Stabilization with Supersonic Wave Drive™ technology provides blur-free images when using any of the more than 30 digital-specific lenses;
* Face Detection Technology targets and locks on faces to ensure they are in focus and blur-free for amazing portraits;
* Shadow Adjustment Technology opens up detail in the shadows that other cameras would render too dark or underexposed while maintaining detail in the highlights; and
* Perfect Shot Preview enables photographers to view and select White Balance and Exposure Compensation effects right on the LCD, and see how the image will look before they even capture it.

“Beyond a successor, the Olympus E-520 features an array of new technologies that help photo hobbyists and serious digital photographers take remarkable images,” said John Knaur, senior marketing manager – DSLR, Olympus Imaging America Inc. “Its image stabilization system now lets photographers pan while holding the portable camera vertically – perfect for capturing everything from a sprinter breaking from the pack to the bride and groom walking down the aisle.”
