Nikon Coolpix S8000 Reviews

PCWorld reviews the Nikon Coolpix S8000 and writes;
“the Coolpix S8000 with its above average image quality and nice set of features is an attractive deal. However, its slow time-to-first-shot and long disk-writing time should be a concern if you need a snappy shooter. “

TrustedReviews reviews the Nikon Coolpix S8000 and writes;
“the Nikon Coolpix S8000 is a solidly made and well designed camera that offers a wide range of easy-to-use high-end features and produces reliably good results in a wide range of situations. It is a superb all-rounder and excellent value for money.”
Rating: ★★★★☆

ImagingResource reviews the Nikon Coolpix S8000 and writes;
“ISO 400 shots are good at 11×14, with a hint of chroma and luminance noise in the shadows, but not bad…. Overall, the Nikon S8000 would have done better in our printed test if it weren’t for the noticeable blur down the left side of the frame, which is visible in prints as small as 5×7 inches.”

CameraLabs reviews the Nikon Coolpix S8000 and writes;
“There’s less of a difference between the COOLPIX S8000 and the Panasonic Lumix TZ8 / ZS5 than with the H55, but we still think the Lumix TZ8 / ZS5 just has the edge. It doesn’t have the consistency of the Nikon, producing sharper, better defined detail in the centre of the image than at the edges, but at the edges it’s marginally better and in the centre significantly sharper.”

ePhotozine reviews the Nikon Coolpix S8000 and writes;
“The S8000 performs well enough to be suitable for those looking for a convenient compact with the flexibility a large zoom offers for producing good quality 7×5 prints at your local high street lab or at home, or for sharing images on the web.”
Rating: ★★★★☆

PCWorld reviews the Nikon Coolpix S8000 and writes;
“the Coolpix S8000 led our latest pocket megazoom test group in lack of distortion, and it was among the leaders for exposure quality and sharpness. Color accuracy and video quality were only mediocre, however, and as a result the Coolpix S8000 posted an overall imaging score of Good.”

DCR reviews the Nikon Coolpix S8000 and writes;
“As it is, the Nikon Coolpix S8000 would be an almost ideal choice to replace an aging first digital camera, an excellent choice as a family camera, and a very good choice for travelers who want a small tough, easy to use digicam.”
Rating: ★★★★☆ reviews the Nikon Coolpix S8000 and writes;
“The good: Great LCD; stereo mic; 10x zoom in an attractive compact body. The bad: Poor low-light photo quality; no optical zoom while recording movies; mixed shooting performance; no semimanual, manual modes. The bottom line: A nice design and a couple extra features keep the Nikon Coolpix S8000 from being an also-ran compact megazoom.”

Rating: ★★★½☆ reviews the Nikon Coolpix S8000 and writes;
“If specifications were all that counted, the Nikon Coolpix S8000 would be right up there with the best compact superzooms, but its 14.2-megapixel sensor produces mushy, over-processed detail, and its 10x zoom is second-division at best. It’s not that expensive for a compact superzoom, but it’s not that good either”

PhotographyBlog reviews the Nikon Coolpix S8000 and writes;
“for the less demanding user this well-priced camera is top flight in terms of build and performance – only let down by a sluggish write speed at maximum resolution, something most will probably feel they can live with in return for 14-megapixel images, that zoom range and a very stylish pocketable design.”
Rating: ★★★★☆ reviews the Nikon Coolpix S8000 and writes;
“he good: Slim and sleek design; high-resolution LCD; speedy performance; effective image stabilizer. The bad: Not as many features as its competitors; picture quality can be better. The bottom line: The Coolpix S8000 is a no-frills long-zoom compact that will appeal to beginners. “
Rating: ★★★½☆

Pocket-Lint reviews the Nikon Coolpix S8000 and writes;
“Image quality is only above average, with the 14 megapixel sensor delivering acceptable results in terms of noise from ISO 100-400.. Chromatic aberrations are also visible in high contrast images and pictures are soft straight out of the camera with no ability to sharpen them.”
Rating: ★★★★☆

TechRadar reviews the Nikon Coolpix S8000 and writes;
“For those who want plenty of power and resolution without resigning themselves to needing a dedicated bag for their camera, the S8000 is a great compact.”
Rating: ★★★½☆ reviews the Nikon Coolpix S8000 and writes;
“If you are looking for a compact digital camera with a longer lens then the Coolpix S8000 is a good choice. It is able to take a good quality snapshot, is easy to use and has some useful features. Shutter delay times are also impressive.”

Nikon Coolpix S8000 User Reviews

I’m not disappointed at all. Perfect pocket camera! | Rating: ★★★★★
“I shoot with a d300 mainly, doing floral, macro and actually, whatever tickles my fancy. When I read the review of this camera pre-release, I wanted it immediately. The focal length is perfect: 30-300mm. I can slip this little sweetheart into my pocket and have a quality camera at the ready when carrying a dslr around my neck wouldn’t be an option. Seriously, I like it so well that I am considering taking it with me for our tropical vacation and leaving the d300 at home. The d300 really is a beast to travel with when you add a few lenses, even though once I am there -wherever- I am glad I have it along. This will be the true test for me, going to a photographers heaven with just the s8000. I did use it quite a bit on our last trip to Albuquerque, and loved it. “ – by Karen

Compact but Capable | Rating: ★★★★☆
“The built-in flash is okay, but not super powerful. It does offer uniform lighting over the frame, even when using wide angle views – a pet peeve of mine on other cameras. The S8000 also has automatic red-eye reduction built in, so you rarely see people pictures having lots of red-eye. Of course, I’d rather have great noise-free performance out to ISO 3200 so I don’t need the flash in the first place, but absent that, the flash is a reasonable compromise…. Overall, I think Nikon has a winner here and I absolutely recommend it for anyone wanting a compact but capable point-and-shoot. “ – by Busy

Wife loves it | Rating: ★★★★★
“I am a wedding photographer and own Nikons from the D100 to the D3. My wife wanted a small compact camera that she could put in her pocket or purse to have with her at all times. Grandson you know!! I (we) could not be happier with this fabulous camera. Takes terrific close up photos and the zoom is great but I really like the stabilized feature on this camera. The large rear viewing screen is sharp and clear, the controls are very intuitive. If you want a small lightweight camera for all around shooting then I highly recommend this one. It does not have any manual controls. No shutter or aperture priority or manual. Just automatic. But for what you get and the price under $300.00 I don’t think you can beat it. And the low light capabilty is also very good. I really like this little camera “ – by Gary

Very good camera although you must use its features | Rating: ★★★★☆
“Definitely make use of the “macro” mode for close-ups as those pics will turn out fantastic. From what I can see the detail on the pics is wonderful and the lighting looks true as well. I would’ve given this a 5 star except the fact that to get the best performace you do have to select the mode yourself. Oh yeah, the 10x zoom is a VERY nice feature to have on a compact camera. Haven’t tried the video mode so can’t comment on that. “ – by Cardfan17

Amazing Picture Quality | Rating: ★★★★☆
“As one of the previous reviewers pointed out, there is a high pitch noise present during video playback. It is not horrible but definitely noticeable. I did not purchase the camera primarily for capturing video, but would be lying if I said the HD recording capability was a feature I overlooked. While this is not a deal breaker by any means, it did keep me from giving a full 5 stars on my review. “ – by Just4Fun

Nikon Coolpix S8000 Features

EXPEED digital imaging technology
Nikon’s smarter approach to digital imaging technology. From image capture to processing, Nikon’s comprehensive EXPEED digital imaging concept encompasses the entire picture-taking operation. EXPEED is much more than a processing engine; it is a revolution in digital photography.

3-inch, 921k-dot TFT LCD featuring Nikon’s Clear Color Display
The high-quality 3-inch Clear Color Display for the Coolpix S8000 features an ultra wide-viewing angle, anti-reflection coating, and screen brightness adjustment. The vibrant 3.0-inch 920k-dot VGA display offers four times the clarity and detail of standard cameras for amazing image reproduction. In addition, the monitor’s structure greatly reduces reflection and improves visibility outdoors for a more vivid, clearer image preview and playback.

High-Definition movie recording
Entertain audiences with movies that capture the impact of the scene with HD. The Coolpix S8000 can shoot up to 1.5 hours* of HD movies (720p) with sound at 30fps. HDMI output is also available for easy in camera playback on your TV or computer.

Four advanced image stabilization features ensure sharper results
The Coolpix S8000’s high ISO 1600 capability allows shooting at faster shutter speeds, yielding great results even when shooting in low light or when capturing fast-moving subjects. Motion Detection assists in achieving sharper results by automatically controlling the shutter speed and ISO setting to compensate for subject movement as well as camera shake. New advanced flash control enables natural and beautiful flash photos even when subjects are backlit or when shooting telephoto by enhancing ISO sensitivity, rather than opting for slower shutter speeds.

Nikon’s Smart Portrait System with Skin Softening
As part of Nikon’s Smart Portrait System, a series of advanced functions help produce consistently great portraits. The Skin Softening function ensures smooth skin tone on the face of subjects by leveraging built-in face-detection technology. Automatically detecting as many as 12 faces in the shot, Face-priority AF helps produce satisfying portraits by adjusting focus and exposure. Smile Timer helps to faithfully record precious moments by automatically releasing the shutter when the subject smiles. Blink Warning alerts the photographer when it suspects that a subject has blinked, while the Blink Proof function shoots five sequential frames, then saves the one in which the subject’s eyes are wide open. In-Camera Red-Eye Fix Red-Eye Fix automatically corrects perceived red-eye effect before saving the image to memory.
