Nikon Df is a full-frame DSLR camera with retro style that was launched in November 2013. This camera uses a 16.2 Megapixel CMOS FX-Format sensor with EXPEED 3 image processor. In addition, Df Nikon also has features like 3.2-inch LCD monitor, an Optical Glass Pentaprism Viewfinder, Mechanical Exposure Control Dials, ISO100-12800 expandable up to ISO 50-204800, speed continuous shooting up to 5.5fps. While the body design is made of magnesium alloy. This camera has the size (WxHxD) 5.6 x 4.3 x 2.6 “/ 143.5 x 110.0 x 66.5 mm and weighs 1.56 lb/710 g. Features & Design

Nikon Df uses a full-frame FX-format CMOS sensor that is the same as the D4 which has a good performance in low light situations. The sensor has a resolution of 16.2 megapixels and combined with the EXPEED 3 image processor. The camera sensor allows the user to shoot with a sensitivity range of ISO100-12800 which can be increased up to ISO 50-204800 and thanks to the performance of the processor speed, the camera is able to shooting up to 5.5fps. The main features that offered by Nikon Df is an Optical Glass Pentaprism Viewfinder with coverage 100% which interesting to fans of Nikon. In addition, Nikon Df also supports the use of old non-Al lenses.


With its retro design, Nikon Df does not try to hide the buttons settings. The buttons are so many and make it stand out, but not heavier than the Nikon D610. From the retro design, at the top of the camera you will get a special levers and buttons to set the shooting mode such as exposure, release button, shutter button, ISO button, and the exposure compensation button.

On the rear you will see a viewfinder and a 3.2-inch screen which has a resolution of 921k-dot to see your camera shots. In addition, on the back of the camera there are Playback and Delete buttons are aligned with the viewfinder. Under the two keys, there is Menu key, White Balance and the protection of the image, the image quality adjustment and zoom in, flash control and zoom out, as well as the configuration of the various functions. While the right of the screen there is a button diopter correction, and beside it is the Auto Exposure / Autofocus Lock. Under those buttons there is a button of Metering Mode, four-way control button with an OK button in the center, including LiveView button and Info button function.


Overall, the design of which is owned by Nikon Df is perfect for photographers who like fiddling with the camera settings manually before shooting. With the manual settings, this camera is more intuitive to use for photo shoot only. And the body is made of magnesium alloy which allows the camera to be able to survive in a variety of weather though it is not covered all of the camera body.

Performance & Image Quality

By having a full-frame FX-format CMOS sensor with 16.2 Megapixel resolution and combined with the performance of EXPEED3 image processor, Nikon Df capable of producing high resolution, excellent image detail with remarkable color, tonal gradations and shadow detail. Not only that, the control of noise image is also very good at ISO 100-12800 and can be increased up to ISO 50-204800.

Meanwhile, Nikon Df using 2,016-pixel sensor 3D Color Matrix Metering II to determine the proper exposure according to the scene are detected. The sensor is equipped with a 39-point autofocus system with nine cross-type points, and seven points that will work in aperture f / 8. But unlike other DSLR cameras, Nikon Df does not support you to record video. You can only shoot photos are stored in memory cards such as SD, SDHC, and SDXC.

In addition, another feature that is owned by Nikon Df including Scene Recognition System with 3D Color Matrix Metering II, utilizing 2,016-pixel RGB sensor to evaluate and analyze all aspects of the scene, including brightness, contrast, subject distance, and color scene, then quickly determine the exposure and white balance appropriate to the scene detected. Df is also equipped with Nikon Picture Control modes, Active D-Lighting, Built-in HDR, and is compatible with the optional WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter including the GP-1A GPS Unit.

Should I buy the camera?

Df Nikon is a great camera for those who love taking pictures in low light situations, such as weddings, music concerts, and night photography. The camera is capable of producing excellent picture quality without noise thanks to the 16.2 megapixel sensor as the Nikon D4. In addition, the camera controls are also more modern by using direct buttons to adjust ISO, exposure compensation and shutter speed that is faster than a digital setting. However, this camera does not support video recording so for those of you who like to record video are advised to see the Nikon D800 or Nikon D4 first before buying Nikon Df.
