Hello Martha,
My camera was a month and a day old when it did the same thing during a shoot. I sent it back to Nikon, and it was under warranty. They told me at first it was not. I had issues with the lense they sent too, the 18 to 105 that came with it. It took atleast 1.5 months to fix and they dont update their progress if you are trying to follow it. The repair itself was said to be around $400. I have another D90, and so far so good with the screen, but agian my 18 to 105 lense is having issues. It like its not attached sometimes, or like the camera is turned off. Hopefully you are not having the same, but if you are send it back too, it was free as well. Best of luck.

Tell me about the screen going grey. My camera is 1 month old and has done the same thing. Is there a simple fix?

Thanks Rebecca and Jess:

Today I got answers from Nikon, Here is what they said:

"...The images should look sharp as soon as they are set...in some cases the camera will take a quick moment in order for it to adjust/load the image (I interpret this as 0.1 to 0.3 seconds jiggle)...This does not only apply to the D90 but to all of our digital SLR camera."

I guess every D90 have this and I did not get a lemon.

Are you in Live View mode? In live view mode the shutter, for whatever reason, goes up, then down, and then up again.

My camera does the same thing. As far as I know, it's just loading the picture. It is a 12 MP image, after all and the camera does load them faster than my computer generally can. Also, not sure what you mean by jiggling; I just wait while it loads.

Thank you Jess for your kind response. I did use Jpeg-Large-Fine with Sandisk 2G SD cards (slow) at first.

After reading your email, I rushed out to order 3 Sandisk Ultra II 4G SDHC and received it today.

Now I changed to Jpeg-Small-Basic (lowest resolution) using the new faster and larger Ultra II Class 4 4G SDHC card.

Unfortunately, the playback on D90 3" LCD monitor still went through this "Not Sharp
- Jiggle 0.1 to 0.2 seconds - Then Sharpen" steps.

Since I'm rather inexperienced, I would like to ask other Nikon D90 owners if they also experienced these steps in their D90?

Thanks...

Charley... You may have your photos set to the highest resolution. Try switching to a lower resolution. if that doesn't help, you might have a slow memory card that takes a while to load. Just a few guesses!

Please help...

When I review/playback my pictures on my new Nikon D90's 3" LCD, it always has this weird habit - (1) the pictures being playback always "not in sharp focus" at first (2) after approximately 0.1 to 0.3 seconds (pictures jiggle a little), then the pictures become sharp focus.

This never happen in my Nikon D60 (it always in sharp focus "immediately" when playback). I wonder this weird habit happens on all Nikon D90 or I got a lemon?

Thanks for your kind help.
