You fell into the same trap as me. I bought a new Nikon D60 last week in a camera shop in Bangkok. The price was good - the reason is that it's a 'grey' import. It is not covered by a Nikon guarantee and the manual is in Japanese. Nikon Thailand will not send me a manual in English. They say I must take it back to the shop, argue for my money back (impossible in Thailand), then go and buy a properly imported model. I didn't know it was a 'grey' import, so now I have a £400 camera I can't use.

Did you find a solution? I'd like to know.

Just my 2 cents.. The manual doesn't really give a whole lot of information. I would recommend going to the bookstore, or Amazon.com and buying one of the many books they have out on this camera. every one i've seen is great, and they're all LOTS more informative than the manual.

Not sure what you mean by 'locked' but the shutter will not release if any of the following is true: no SD card inserted; SD card full; battery with insufficent power left.

I had the same problem when i downloaded the manual. I got the full manual in a printable version using "A-PDF Restrictions Remover".

The website is: http://www.a-pdf.com/security/restrictions_remover.htm
