Nikon Coolpix S3000 Reviews

ITReviews reviews the Nikon Coolpix S3000 and writes;
“the Nikon COOLPIX S3000 certainly fulfils its aim to be a chic, good quality and user-friendly introduction to compact digital photography, although video is below par.”
Rating: ★★★½☆

PocketLint reviews the Nikon Coolpix S3000 and writes;
“Despite the averaging image quality, the Nikon Coolpix S3000 is a neat little compact camera. The dimensions will appeal to those who want something they can easily tuck away, but some might find it too small for their hands”
Rating: ★★★½☆

TechRadar reviews the Nikon Coolpix S3000 and writes;
“The Nikon Coolpix S3000 is a nice little camera but not a massive step-up from the S220. Its usability and image performance issues, while hardly deal breakers, mean that it’s probably wiser to save up another £20 and get the Nikon Coolpix S4000, with HD video and touchscreen controls”
Rating: ★★★☆☆

ePhotozine reviews the Nikon Coolpix S3000 and writes;
“The S3000 is a reasonably responsive camera which focuses quickly, especially when the face detection system is active. In low light conditions the orange AF assist light does a sterling job of helping the AF system to lock on as quickly as it can. “
Rating: ★★★★☆

CNET.asia reviews the Nikon Coolpix S3000 and writes;
“The good: Incredibly slim and compact; reasonable image quality for the price; pleasing design. The bad: Electronic rather than optical or sensor-shift image stabilization; some images look over-processed. The bottom line: The S3000 is pretty good for a cheap point-and-shoot, as long as you keep photo quality expectations in check considering its price “
Rating: ★★★½☆

PhotographyBay reviews the Nikon Coolpix S3000 and writes;
“the S3000 is a user-friendly entry-level camera. It’s ultra-compact, which means it can go with you anywhere. The downside of the Nikon S3000 is that it just isn’t up to snuff on image quality. “

Cameras.co.uk reviews the Nikon Coolpix S3000 and writes;
“This is a cheaper pocket digital camera. It scores highly for ease of use and it also carries a lower price tag for a pocket camera from Nikon. I did find some issues with picture quality. “
Rating: ★★★½☆

CameraLabs.com reviews the Nikon Coolpix S3000 and writes;
“if most of your shots are taken in bright conditions – or if you’re happy with the output of our sample images in dimmer light – then the COOLPIX S3000 is a great choice for the money. Nikon has delivered another easy-to-use point-and-shoot compact which might be lacking the frills of its rival from Canon, but produces equally good images (in decent light) while crucially hitting a comfortably lower price point. “
Rating: ★★★★☆

Webuser.co.uk reviews the Nikon Coolpix S3000 and writes;
“This is a great all-round camera that fits a lot of high-end features in a small body. Best of all is its price, which makes it a truly affordable snapper. The downside is that challenging conditions will test the camera beyond its limits.”
Rating: ★★★★★

WDC reviews the Nikon Coolpix S3000 and writes;
“Unfortunately, image quality is generally on the whole fairly disappointing. White balance is unreliable, while softness and fringing dominate the corners of the frame. However, when the S3000 gets it right, it’s capable of good results”
Rating: ★★★★☆

Digitalcamera-hq.com reviews the Nikon Coolpix S3000 and writes;
“The S3000 is a mediocre camera. There’s no way in hell that you can get publishable photos out of this thing, and if you want any advanced features or plan to do any kind of semi-serious photography, this is not the camera for you.”

Nikon Coolpix S3000 User Reviews

Awesome Camera! | Rating: ★★★★★
“The camera is wonderful. I had looked at the Nikon Coolpix L22 and had planned to get it from Walmart, but they happened to be out of stock at that moment. I was about to go on a trip and really wanted a new camera. I happened to see this camera beside the other display and picked it up and checked out the zoom and other features and was really impressed so I bought it. It’s very cool and zooms in just a bit closer than the previous. The scene selector makes taking pictures easy and fun. It’s very easy to crop pictures too! The Smile feature is a blast! ” – By Johnathan Smith

Great Point and Shoot Camera | Rating: ★★★★★
“This is a great low price camera. I was going to take a trip to Chicago and wanted an affordable camera with high resolution and that would take pictures very quickly. Some digital cameras flash 13 times before actually taking the picture, this one is so quick and accurately determines if a flash is needed. I had read some reviews on this camera from other sites and some of the compliants were that the pictures were blurry. If you just read the manuel and use the flash when appropriate….no fuzzy pictures. I took pictures while I was walking and the pictures still turned out crystal clear. Great camera at a great price point. ” – By Nicoelle L. Barnett

Nikon Coolpix small digital but awesome pictures | Rating: ★★★★★
“I had a similar digital which was very easy to use with a lot of bells and wistles. But too big when you compare it to other small digitals. My new Nikon coolpix can fit almost anywhare and ready to use with a small touch on the botton. Takes great pictures when using the auto feature. Still trying to find my way on the other options, but they easily accessed.” – By J. Luckie

Coolpix is cool | Rating: ★★★★☆
“For the price, this camera is great! Easy to use and takes great pix. Love it!! So small and light weight.
Outdoors it is hard to see the images on the screen in sunlight when taking pictures so just take a little more
time or take and extra shot or two. ” – By Sea Dog

Amazing image quality, especially for the price! | Rating: ★★★★★
“The pictures are phenomenal, so much better than my last camera. However, I’m still trying to figure out how to use the features on the camera, and I am disappointed that it doesn’t seem to come with any sort of image editing program. Maybe it does and I just haven’t found it yet . . . ” – By Justine

Ease of use, excellent images, great P&S camera. | Rating: ★★★★★
“First of all, this is a very user-friendly camera. The menus and controls are completely intuitive, and make sense even if you have not cracked open the manual. Second of all, it is a gorgeous piece of machinery; cute and cuddly and shiny and impressive. I’m afraid my girlfriend is going to try to steal it, it is so cute. I may have to buy her one to preemptively stop that from happening. ” – By CNET

Nikon Coolpix S3000 Feature Highlights

EXPEED digital imaging technology
Nikon’s smarter approach to digital imaging technology. From image capture to processing, Nikon’s comprehensive EXPEED digital imaging concept encompasses the entire picture-taking operation. EXPEED is much more than a processing engine; it is a revolution in digital photography.

Four advanced image stabilizing features* help ensure sharper results

Nikon Coolpix S3000

Nikon’s Electronic VR image stabilization compensates for the effects of camera shake. Motion Detection automatically controls shutter speed and the ISO setting to compensate for subject movement as well as camera shake. ISO 3200 capability allows faster shutter speeds when shooting in low light or capturing fast-moving subjects. And, Nikon’s original BSS (Best Shot Selector) function automatically shoots a series of sequential frames and saves the one with the sharpest focus.

Intelligent automation contributes to carefree shooting

Nikon’s Scene Auto Selector eliminates the need to manually select a scene mode to match the shot, and this makes it faster and easier to capture the moment in beautiful fashion. The Coolpix S3000 uses this intelligent function to analyze the subject and its surrounding settings and automatically selects the most appropriate of the following six scene modes to achieve optimal results–Portrait, Landscape, Night Portrait, Night Landscape, Close-up, or Backlight.

Nikon’s exclusive Smart Portrait System

Automatically detecting as many as 12 faces in the shot, Face-priority AF helps produce satisfying portraits by adjusting focus and exposure. Smile Timer automatically releases the shutter when the priority subject smiles and offers the Blink Proof function, which automatically shoots two sequential frames and saves the one in which the subject’s eyes are open-wide. Now featuring faster processing speed, In-Camera Red-Eye Fix automatically corrects perceived red-eye effect before saving the image to memory.

Subject Tracking
Subject tracking automatically detects a human face and then continues to track and focus on that subject. Particularly useful when capturing children as they move naturally, Subject Tracking even functions if the subject moves out of the frame and returns within three seconds.

Instruction manual is the worst I have ever seen. If you already know how to operate a digital camera, perhaps you can make heads or tails of it. If you are a beginner, it is impenetrable. Badly organized, explanations do not explain. Highly frustrating. And you have to print off the over 50 pages yourself (though I guess you need another manual to get it to print in readable size and dark enough print). Love the camera, but it’s all luck and guesswork for me. Would not buy a camera like this again without a readable, usable manual.

My point and shoot camera broke on a cruise – and I had to get a replacement. The cruise ship was discounting this model to $109 – no tax – which is about the same as you can buy it here. After fooling around with it in the photo store onboard, I bought it, and I’m very happy with it.

Pro’s: I have several ‘artistic’ shots that will be on my wall soon. The camera is able to take great shots in daylight without adjustments. With the flash set to AUTO, it does OK with indoor shots, but I’m hoping to be able to improve them by ‘tweaking’ the settings.

Cons: I have a Nikon D-series SLR, and I am somewhat familiar with the menus. So, using the Quick Start guide, I was able to set the camera up. However, it’s not obvious how to ‘tweak’ the settings so that it will take good shots in low light, set white balance properly or even change image size. I’m HOPING that I can decipher the User Guide when I have a chance.
