Nikon Coolpix S200 Reviews

PCMag reviews the Nikon Coolpix S200 and writes;
“PROS: Slim and compact design. Simple, intuitive controls. Responsive operation.. CONS: Average photo quality. Mediocre lens. Advanced automatic features such as face detection and high-ISO mode are not terribly useful.. BOTTOM LINE: A decent, though unremarkable point-and-shoot model, the Nikon Coolpix S200 provides all the basics plus a handful of creative options in an ultracompact, sturdy metal body.”
Rating: ★★★☆☆

Cameras.UK reviews the Nikon Coolpix S200 and writes;
“I’m afraid I would give the Nikon Coolpix S200 a miss. It looks good, but the picture quality the camera produces is a disappointment… The Nikon Coolpix S200 left me feeling disappointed. It looks good, feels good and is easy to use, but I struggled with picture quality. I would suggest having a good look at other pocket sized digital cameras before buying this one.”

ImagingResource reviews the Nikon Coolpix S200 and writes;
“The Nikon S200′s image noise issues and the use of electronic rather than optical Vibration Reduction won’t be of much use for those who like to shoot in low light without a flash. But the camera is easy to use, it’s stylish, highly portable and at low ISOs, the Nikon Coolpix S200 can produce some decent images, and good quality prints up to 8×10.”

TrustedReviews reviews the Nikon Coolpix S200 and writes;
“Despite the prestigious Nikon badge, the S200 is a pretty run-of-the-mill ultra-compact, with little to distinguish it from several competing models. It is very slim and light, build quality is well up to the usual Nikon standard, and the camera handles well. The electronic vibration reduction also works well, and does give the camera a slight edge over models with only ISO-boost, but this is let down by terrible low-light focusing, average performance and indifferent image quality.”

CNET.UK reviews the Nikon Coolpix S200 and writes;
“Otherwise, it performed sluggishly in our lab tests. After taking 1.7 seconds to start up and capture its first JPEG, the S200 could fire off a new shot every 1.9 seconds with the flash turned off. With the flash enabled, that time increased to 3.2 seconds. Burst mode snapped 10 full-resolution shots in 10.2 seconds for a rate of about 1 frame per second.”
Rating: ★★★½☆

CNET reviews the Nikon Coolpix S200 and writes;
“Thanks to the S200′s disappointing lens, most photos appear at least slightly distorted. Both wide-angle and telephoto shots develop a small amount of barrel and pincushion distortion, respectively. Strangely enough, we found that the most distortion appears in the middle of the lens, between the wide-angle and zoom extremes.”

ePhotozine reviews the Nikon Coolpix S200 and writes;
“The S200 has some interesting features and produces some good results as a point and click camera. It is also stylishly designed and compact enough to take just about anywhere. Colour renditions are generally every accurate, and the macro mode produces some good results. Overall, a good quality camera with a good value and affordable price tag..”

PopSci reviews the Nikon Coolpix S200 and writes;
“The S200 was noticeably slower at detecting faces, failed to track them well if they moved around, and occasionally mistook high-contrast objects, such as neon lights, for people. Unlike the Fujifilm and Sony cameras, which have dedicated face-tracking circuitry, the S200 runs the software on its main image processor, which might explain the sluggish performance. Otherwise, it takes serviceable, but not stunning, photos.”

Steve’sDIgicams reviews the Nikon Coolpix S200 and writes;
“The Nikon Coolpix S200 is an appealing ultra-compact model, with easy to use features, good image quality and performance, all packaged in a very compact and stylish shell. With a street price of US$249 or less, the S200 offers a good value for such a capable little digicam. Therefore, if you’re one who is on the market for a camera that can be tucked away almost anywhere and shoots nice photos without much fuss, be sure to take a good look a this model.”

Pocket-Lint reviews the Nikon Coolpix S200 and writes;
“The S200 could be looked at as a Coolpix S500-lite, but that fails to recognise the excellent build and features that make the S200 an accomplished machine in its own right at a good price. Yes, the e-VR foibles mean if you have an extra £50, the S500’s optical image stabilisation might be a better option for you, but the otherwise excellent image quality, particularly below ISO 200 means the S200 is well worth looking at. Overall, then, the camera works well, looks nice and takes cracking pictures.”

DigitalCameraReviews reviews the Nikon Coolpix S200 (Rating: 2/5) and writes;
“Auto ISO images are generally excellent (in good lighting) with sharp resolution, bold colors, and lots of snap (although some very minor pattern noise/color grain is occasionally visible in shadow areas). ISO 50 and 100 images are dependably excellent with very good detail and virtually no noise. ISO 200 images are surprisingly good, essentially the same as lower ISO images. Noise levels rise noticeably at ISO 400 – images are a bit flat, colors aren’t as bold as lower ISO images, and some fine detail is lost. ISO 800 and 1000 images are very noisy, colors lack pop, and edge demarcations are noticeably softer than lower ISO images. I didn’t notice any chroma noise (blotching).”

GoodGearGuide reviews the Nikon Coolpix S200 (Rating: 2/5) and writes;
“In our noise test, the S200 performed a little better, scoring .83% at ISO 100, which is slightly above average. At this level, we noticed no obvious signs of noise, with clean, speckle free pictures. However the noise ramped up considerably as we increased the sensitivity. While ISO settings up to 1000 are on offer, we’d recommend avoiding anything above ISO 400, as the noise created at ISO 800 and above is just too high to justify.”
Rating: ★★☆☆☆

Megapixel reviews the Nikon Coolpix S200 and writes;
“The Coolpix S200 is a high quality entry-level camera. It offers a metallic body and excellent finishing, a good monitor and produces good quality images with reasonably bright lighting conditions. Moreover, the e-VR is an added bonus, even it isn’t quite as effective as an optical image stabilization system.”
