Nikon 85mm f/1.4D AF Nikkor Reviews
Radiantlite.com review the Nikon 85mm f/1.4D AF Nikkor and writes;
“Built quality of this lens is awesome, it is average in size and weight and very nice to handle. The focus ring is smooth. Closest focusing is 85cm, make it not very ideal for macro / close-up photography.”
rating: N/A
Nikonjin Compares the Nikon 85mm f/1.4D AF Nikkor vs Nikon AF 85mm f/1.8D and writes;
“The Nikon AF 85mm f/1.4D and AF 85mm f/1.8D are two of the most commonly used portrait lens by professional and amateur photographers especially wedding and portrait photographers around the world. Both the 85mm f/1.4D and 85mm f/1.8D lenses can give you great portrait pictures with very nice colour, center sharpness and very nice bokeh.”

Kenrockwell reviews the Nikon 85mm f/1.4D AF Nikkor and writes;
“It has better bokeh than the f/1.8 version, is built much more like a tank, takes today’s standard 77mm filters and seems to have better AF accuracy than the f/1.8 model allowing you to make good use of the maximum aperture.”
rating: N/A
SLRLensreview reviews the Nikon 85mm f/1.4D AF Nikkor and writes;
“AF Nikkor 85mm f/1.4D showcased very good, practically neutral color reproduction – images in general carried good amount of contrast throughout the aperture range and colors were sufficiently saturated, which in turn helped create rich, life-like textures. “
rating: N/A
Bythom.com reviews the Nikon 85mm f/1.4D AF Nikkor and writes;
“Absolutely nothing to complain about, unless, I suppose, you’re a corner purist and were expecting flat field correction. Right from f/1.4 the lens is very good in the center with just a touch of softness; two stops down it is superb. “

Momentcorp reviews the Nikon 85mm f/1.4D AF Nikkor and writes;
“The Nikon AF 85mm f/1.4 outperforms the manual focus version without a doubt. On the performance side it is overall pretty damn good, with the exceptions of longitudinal CA, what this means is that the focal planes of the various colors do not coincide. “

Photozone.de reviews the Nikon 85mm f/1.4D AF Nikkor and writes;
“That all said the AF 85mm f/1.4D is certainly capable to render beautiful large-aperture results with a shallow depth-of-field and an exceptionally smooth bokeh. The mechanical quality of the lens is fantastic and it is a joy to use this lens. “

Nikon 85mm f/1.4D AF Nikkor User Reviews
My favorite lens!, | Rating:

“I love everything about this lens, especially the creamy bokeh and at the same time it very sharp too. Great lens this might might be, but it’s not all purpose lens, at 127.5mm (35mm equivalent) with APS sensor camera, it’s considered telephoto and may not be good for small indoors but great for out doors and low light indoor sports. Oh and most of all it’s a must have for portraits. “ – by Gyong
As good as it gets | Rating:

“This is everything you have heard it is. It really is as good as it gets for this range/speed. The only thing I would say is more useful for portraits would be the new 24-70mm f/2.8 but that will not give you even close to the same Bokeh. The background bluring this creates at f/2.8 and lower is unbeatable IMO. “ – by Shadowgolem
Great for portraits but quite old. | Rating:

“Mounted in Nikon full frame camera D700, the lens is sharp at maximum aperture of f/1.4D, which is excellent. Stopped down to f/2.8, the lens become very sharp. But extreme sharpness is not what this lens is made for. It is primarily made for its ability in low light condition, and its ability to create a beautiful out of focus effect in background or foreground. “ – by Enche Tjin
Expensive, but worth it since it’s versatile | Rating:

“The other main reason to buy this lens is the bokeh, of course. It is very smooth and beautiful. However, this lens does take some practice and skill when shooting wide open. It is a very sharp lens even at 1.4, but there is no room for error with focus since the depth of field is so narrow….” – by nnsuch
Blown Away | Rating:

“excellent quality of bokeh, degree of blur controllable all the way to extreme at f/1.4, and a rendering of the in-focus part of the image that is just superb, and that loses not one whit of perceived quality even at wide-open aperture. That is a combination that will let you make magic.” – by Glenn Carpenter
For what it is, it is perfect | Rating:

“Bokeh, especially wide open, is wonderful… This is the reason people buy this lens… Only slight irritation (not worth deducting a star for) is the lens hood. It is a screw in design, not a quick bayonnet mount and can not be reversed for storage. When mounted it is slighly tricky to get the lens cap securely on (I had it falling off a few times). However, it is a good, solid metal hood so will also give some physical protection. “ – by Steven Janes
Unmatched | Rating:

“As well the sharpness being excellent, I had no idea that bokeh could look this creamy and smooth. I can throw a variety of backgrounds and this lens would blend almost everything into a painting-like cream… The construction of the lens is excellent, The M – A dial is slightly awkward but OK.” – by N. Patel
The lens my D700 has been waiting for! | Rating:

“The previous reviewers are not wrong: the sharpness and bokeh are things you must see to believe. The saturation and contrast must also not be forgotten: I do very little post-processing on photos shot with this lens. I hesitated for a long time because of the price, but now that it’s in my hands, I have no regrets! “ – by tempest816
