Nikon 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR AF-S NIKKOR is a super-telephoto zoom lens. It offers focal length of 80-400mm that equivalent to 120-600mm in DX Format with Maximum of f/4.5 – 5.6. Fast and sharp, really have to be committed
“Took it to an indoor volleyball game where it was stellar in it’s focus speed and indoor image quality, again the VR is outstanding. Set it on a tripod and shot some Swans at about 150 meters, image quality is easily good enough to get a 1.5x crop on my 12 megapixel D700 so you probably won’t need to take the 1 stop hit that a 1.4x teleconverter would give you. I’d imagine on a higher resolution camera you could do much better, this should really shine on a D800.” – By D. M. Harman

Big, bulky large bore lens with incredible focus speed
“Got mine today. Was kind of hoping it wouldn’t be as rapid focusing and crisp as it turned out to be in preliminary shooting. I took about 25 shots today with my d800 in the slightly overcast skies. The Nikon 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR AF-S NIKKOR is designed to compatible with both FX and DX-sized image sensors. It features an extensive zoom range of 80-400mm and equivalent to 120-600mm in DX format. When used at zoom range of 80mm, it enables you to create stunning portraits with a medium telephoto perspective and softly blurred backgrounds. While at 400mm, it perfect for wildlife and action photography, with or without a tripod.
This lens has construction that consist of one super ED (extra-low dispersion) and four ED glass elements to help minimize chromatic aberrations throughout the zoom range and contribute to higher image sharpness, clarity, and color fidelity. There is also Nano Crystal Coat which reduces surface reflections, helping to prevent lens flare and ghost effects for greater contrast and light transmission. Moreover, Nikon 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR AF-S NIKKOR comes with Vibration Reduction technology to ensure every handheld photo and HD video is razor-sharp.
The lens is equipped with an autofocus and manual focus modes. There are two other focusing modes A/M stands for Auto-Priority Manual Mode. This mode also enables an easy transition from autofocus to manual during AF operation. And M/A (autofocus with manual override, MF priority) allows switching from AF to MF with virtually no lag time by turning the focusing ring.
Additionally, this lens use SWM (Silent Wave Motor) focusing system with an ultrasonic vibrations to provide quick, quiet, smooth and precise auto focusing performance that is ideal for use in video and subject-tracking.
