Nikon 35mm f/1.4G AF-S Reviews
Kenrockwell reviews the Nikon 35mm f/1.4G AF-S and writes;
“This lens costs so much more because it is limited production, has to cover a much larger format, and is almost a stop faster. It’s not any sharper than the 35/1.8 DX, but these other factors multiply to make this lens ten times as expensive as the DX 35mm, and three times as heavy.”

Photographyblog reviews the Nikon 35mm f/1.4G AF-S and writes;
“One of the reasons is better sharpness and contrast wide open, and the other is, obviously, auto-focus. As we have pointed out in the review, auto-focus is fast and quiet on the AF-S 35mm f/1.4G, but you may experience front- or back-focusing issues on certain camera bodies, so do yourself a favour and check focus accuracy within a day or two of receiving the lens.”

Photozone reviews the Nikon 35mm f/1.4G AF-S and writes;
“It took Nikon a while to get into gear regarding their fast primes, but at least in case of the AF-S 35/1.4 G the result is impressive and was worth the wait. The image center is very sharp right from the largest aperture, the borders and corners follow only slightly behind and offer very good sharpness slightly stopped down.”

SLRGear reviews the Nikon 35mm f/1.4G AF-S and writes;
“It’s not perfect – we had hoped that $1,800 would buy a bit sharper performance at ƒ/1.4 – an aperture this lens will probably spend most of its time set to – but it’s still very good, and when stopped down a bit, becomes quite excellent indeed.”

Cameralabs reviews the Nikon 35mm f/1.4G AF-S and writes;
“Overall contrast is very good even wide open and with very bright backgrounds like snow. Sharpness and micro-contrast is reduced at f1.4 and f2.0 (you have to look at 66% or 100% magnification on your monitor to see it) but performance from f2.8 onwards is impeccable on a D300 or D700. And this holds true whether you shot close-up or at infinity. I’m very impressed.”

Ephotozine reviews the Nikon 35mm f/1.4G AF-S and writes;
“For those looking for a wide angle lens with a fast maximum aperture could do a lot worse than this 35mm f/1.4 from Nikon. Sharpness levels in the centre are extremely high from maximum aperture, it’s well built and focuses fast.”

Whatdigitalcamera reviews the Nikon 35mm f/1.4G AF-S and writes;
“There is no sign of visible image distortion and only the very slightest hint of chromatic aberration can be detected when the most demanding images are inspected as harshly as possible.”

Nikon 35mm f/1.4G AF-S User Reviews
Versatile Lens
“I’m a wedding photographer who shoots in dark conditions often. This lens performs great in these conditions. I use this lens on a D3 body and the AF is good. It doesn’t seem to be as fast at my zooms (24-70 2.8 or 70-200 2.8) but it’s still pretty accurate when focusing in low light. The image quality is AMAZING.” – By Ari

A Very Welcome Addition to the Nikon Lineup, With Caveats
“The optics are superb when the lens acquires proper focus (and the photographer does his/her job correctly). Focusing aside, optically, this lens does not disappoint. Distortion is mild and easily correctable with software. The lens is contrasty and records vivid colors.” – By joel MD

Phenomenal Lens! One of my favorite primes despite some issues
“Background defocus is also more pronounced than the 24mm due to the focal length, and bokeh is almost as beautiful as the 85 1.4G. I’ve used it on a D700 and now on a D800 and when I pixel peep the 36 megapixel file, I’m even more amazed at how sharp this lens is.” – By Lars Milano

Wide and close
“It is sharp in the center at all f-stops, starting right at f1.4. It and the 85mm f1.4G are the only lenses that are sharp enough at f1.4 for me to voluntarily choose to shoot at that aperture. It is very sharp in the corners starting at f2.8 and peaking at f5.6. And here’s a big surprise – this lens focuses closer than the 24mm f1.4G, the 50mm f1.4G, or the 85mm f1.4G.” – By Noirist

Predict This Another Legendary Nikon Lens
“although perhaps not as sharp as some of my APO lenses (Voigtlander 125mm f/2.5 APO Lanthar, Leica 100mm APO Elmarit R, Coastal Optics 60mm APO), this lens is still very, very sharp. In fact, the overall grab of the lens makes me forget about sharpness, which for me is remarkable. I never forget about sharpness.” – By Michael Erlewine

My favorite wedding lens
“Vignetting is well controlled from F/2.8 and slower. But I like the effect on some photos so I do not always correct it. Which LR4 is excellent at removing vignette.” – By Emmanuel

Lovely piece of glass
“lightweight (relatively), sharp, quick.excellent reproduction.
i go to the extent to say it comes close to my leica 35mm aspherical … not exactly the same but autofocus and much easier. These two lenses have convinced me not to say goodbye to my Nikons in favor my M9.” – By Mehran Farahmand

Subtle Differentiator
“I was looking for something a little wider than a 50mm lens with the ability to get a short depth of field. It doesn’t get any better than this. I’m finding the lens very effective for photographing toddlers in their element. Since they don’t sit still very long, this lens just allows you to follow the action and get a sense of place in the image.” – By Scott
