Nikon 200mm f/4.0D ED-IF AF Micro-Nikkor Reviews

Ephotozine reviews the Nikon 200mm f/4.0D ED-IF AF Micro-Nikkor and writes;
“Distortions and aberrations of all kinds are well controlled, as they should be with the inclusion of ED glass. Sharpness is good within this limited depth-of-field.”
rating: N/A

Photozone reviews the Nikon 200mm f/4.0D ED-IF AF Micro-Nikkor and writes;
“The Micro-Nikkor AF 200mm f/4 D ED is an excellent lens with no real weaknesses. The resolution figures are very good to excellent. The vignetting at f/4 is not field relevant and both the distortion and CA characteristic are outstanding. The bokeh (out-of-focus blur) is exceptionally smooth and buttery. Typical for such oldies the build quality is superb whereas the old-style AF (driven by the camera) is very slow but then macro photographers tend to prefer to focus manually anyway. “

Kenrockwell reviews the Nikon 200mm f/4.0D ED-IF AF Micro-Nikkor and writes;
“It is so sharp, even wide-open, that I thought it was stopped down. I had to check my data to make sure that it really was wide open. Likewise, I had to keep checking that my D3 really was set at 12 MP, since pixel-by-pixel it is so sharp that I thought for sure I had my D3 turned down to a lower resolution, where it’s much easier to create sharp pixels when there are fewer of them.”

Nikon 200mm f/4.0D ED-IF AF Micro-Nikkor User Reviews

Excellent lens | Rating: ★★★★★
“This is an excellent lens which gives you a sharp photographic image. But it is a little bit heavy. “ – by Geoffrey Zhang

Top of the line if you can find it | Rating: ★★★★★
“So far I enjoy this lens, and use it on a D80 and D300 for the reach. Have not tried it yet on my D700, but suspect great results on full frame too. Very satisfied with the purchase. May be expensive, but after trying Tamron and Sigma lenses, I’m sticking with Nikon.” – by D. Sano

The de facto standard in long Macro lenses | Rating: ★★★★★
“That MASSIVE focus ring that occupies the entire front half of the maw seems like overkill — until you use it, and then it makes perfect sense. The manual focus seems, for lack of a better word, hydraulic. It is *so* smooth, *so* precise, and *so* consistent you’ll think your flanges are swimming through heavy cream. Equally adept at non-macro photography — really an exceptional long *portrait* lens in its own right — a quick switch of the AF selector makes this lens focus surprisingly quick.” – by Brendan Getchel
