Nikon 180mm f/2.8D ED-IF AF Reviews

SLRGear reviews the Nikon 180mm f/2.8D ED-IF AF and writes;
“This lens isn’t “prickly” sharp wide open, but quickly becomes so as you stop down a little. It has a broad sweet spot from about f/5.6 to f/11, but even wide open at f/2.8 it showed excellent uniformity across our D200 test body’s DX sensor. Very, very nice sharpness characteristics, very well behaved.”

SLRLensreview reviews the Nikon 180mm f/2.8D ED-IF AF and writes;
“Nikon AF Nikkor 180mm f/2.8D ED IF is simply an outstanding lens. The lens does not seem to have any weak points. Image resolution is very solid on both cropped as well as full frame cameras across the aperture range. Color reproduction is very accurate with well contained color fringing and flare. Match a similarly excellent build quality and you get a winner on your hands.”

Kenrockwell reviews the Nikon 180mm f/2.8D ED-IF AF and writes;
“Manual focusing is uniquely good among Nikkor AF lenses. The manual focus is actually damped as it ought to be, and does not run free and dry as the other AF lenses do. This is a particularly good choice if you only want to run in manual focus mode. It also screws up the AF action if you forget to disengage the manual focus ring with the A/M switch! “

Photozone reviews the Nikon 180mm f/2.8D ED-IF AF and writes;
“It was a joy to test drive the AF 180mm f/2.8 IF-ED – it’s one of those lenses that harmonized perfectly with the camera. The resolution is generally excellent. Distortions and vignetting are not field relevant. Lateral CAs are well controlled although you may spot purple fringing at times. During the field tests the lens was also capable of delivering outstanding contrast and a nice bokeh (with a bit of bokeh fringing). “
