Nikon 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5G ED AF-S NIKKOR Reviews
Ephotozine reviews the Nikon 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5G ED AF-S NIKKOR and writes;
“Based on sharpness alone, this is a great lens, at a reasonable introductory price from Nikon. Sharpness in the centre of the frame is outstanding throughout the zoom range and CA levels are kept under control. It’s a shame that distortion and falloff aren’t better controlled, but then these are flaws to be expected with this kind of lens.”

Run–Do Not Walk–To Buy This Lens!
“The 18-35mm is among the sharpest lenses I have used in the 18-28mm range, and it competes well against an extremely sharp prime at 35mm. Plus, unlike other consumer-grade lenses that have good center sharpness but soft edges, the 18-35mm has good edge-to-edge sharpness.” – By Gatorowl

Good value in a wide zoom
“I tried this lens on both an older D300 body and on a newer D800E. On the D300 (a 12MP DX format, effectively making this lens a 27-52mm zoom), I found the image quality reasonably good, perhaps slightly better than the 16-85 DX lens that is one of my favorites on this camera. At 100% crops, wide-open sharpness was excellent in the center with some edge softness,” – By Busy Executive

Very good value for the $, not bad at any price!
“The 18-35 almost exactly replaces the 12-24 in FX format, and it is just as sharp and contrasty as the 12-24. I can detect only the slightest lack of sharpness in the corners. Linear distortion is surprisingly low and is easily corrected in Lightroom. I am now satisfied with my move to FX. This lens and the D600 make an excellent, lightweight combination for anyone needing super-wide coverage in an FX lens.” – By L. Freed

Excellent Package
“With the ISO capabilities of the D600, I don’t find the lack of VR to be a factor. It would be nice to have 2.8 but for this type of lens I would rarely use it… If you want a light, wide angle zoom lens with excellent image quality, I would highly recommend the 18-35. An excellent package. Nikon has scored on this one.” – By POC

For the money it’s an excellent buy
“I’ve done further testing on this lens with the following setup: Nikon D800, manual focusing, Live View, tripod and remote shutter release. Lens was tested at 18mm, 24mm, 28mm and 35mm. Apertures used were wide-open, f5.6, f8, f11, f16 and f22. In CS6 Camera Raw at 100% I start to see diffraction at all focal lengths using f16 and especially at f/22. F8 and F11 seemed to be the best apertures for this lens. The center sharpness is excellent but I have found there is slight edge softness at all focal lengths and apertures.” – By dennis

outstanding lens for money
“Purchase a D800e and am using first generation auto-focus lens which work well. I needed to add a wide angle lens in the 18 to 24mm range so I waited for this to be released. Its now my standard lens excellent sharpness and contrast. Its a great lens.” – By keninfortmyers
