Sharp, fast, with minimal perspective distortion | Rating:
“I have been using this lens on a D700, and one of its best characteristics is how well it functions at wide angles with minimal distortion. There is little evidence of perspective, pincushion, or barrel distortion. Vertical lines stay that way, and this lens is great for interior pictures. It is big, heavy, and not designed to be used with filters, whether for effect or protection of the front element. It’s clearly the best wide angle zoom lens I have tried.” – by R. L. Whalen

“Although I am using a DX format camera (Nikon D300), I bought this lens based on (1) the overwhelmingly excellent reviews (by photographers a lot better then me!), (2) its compatibility with full-frame digital SLRs (just in case I ever get the upgrade bug!), and (3) the likelihood that this lens will “hold its value” better than “consumer grade” lenses. “What is this lens exactly? And why do I recommend it? First off, this lens can be used by pros and amateur alike. The price is steep and this is considered a pro lens, but if you enjoy super wide angle zooms, do not hesitate. There are 2 “pro” lenses that reach the 14mm mark. This lens and the 14mm 2.8 “prime” lens (fixed focal length – ie..not a zoom). This lens is considered by many professionals and critics alike as not only the better of the two, but one of the best lens Nikon has ever made. Some of the advantages this lens has: fast 2.8 f-stop, sharpness through out the entire range, great build quality, little of the distortion found in cheap wide angle lenses. “ – by R. Adams

The best wide angle | Rating:
“I have been using this lens on both a D90 and a D700. This lens is amazing. It is very very sharp from f2.8 all the way up to around f20. The build quality is very very good. When it’s cold you can feel the lens is also cold, it is not plastic made, you can feel the build quality. The zoom and focus rings are stiff enough to be precise and feel the lens. The focus is very very fast as you would expect and also very quiet. The flares and glares are also very little. “I do not own this lens and let’s face it, it would be waisted on a crop format camera like the D300s I own, but I recently had the opportunity to use this outstanding piece of glass with a D700 and let me tell you, I was blown away, swept up in a hurricane of digital delight. For a month I haunted L.A. and Orange County, during all hours of the day and night, shooting, shooting, shooting. I was in photo Heaven. Do you want sharp shots throughout the whole range of a lens? “Is this lens pricey? Yes! But, without a doubt this is Nikon’s BEST, newest and fastest ultra-wide zoom lens. I will even go so far as to say it’s the best lens on the market, bar none! This lense will give you a 114 degree field of view at 14mm and 84 degrees at 24mm. If you are interested in creating some dynamic, compelling shots, this is the lens to have! It’s razor sharp at the corners and at all aperatures and great in low light situations. I am using this on my Nikon D700 and the pics are phenomenal. It’s a little big and bulky, but that comes with the territory when you are talking about ultra-wide glass. If you have the cash, you won’t go wrong with this lens!!” – by Jack G. Kitrenos

A Very Special Lens | Rating:
“For the first two months that I owned this lens I used it on my Nikon D200 with amazing results. Crisp crystal clear images from corner to corner. It was such a thrill to use and the results so amazing that I thought for a moment about holding off on upgrading my camera body. Thank the stars I didn’t stop there, because when I popped this bad boy on my brand new D700 last week – WOW!! Now that’s a wide angle experience!! I’m just sorry that my “photo tech jargon” is not what it should be so I could better explain the fantastic results that I am achieving. It may seem like “big bucks” but you definitely don’t get a “whammy” with this lens, especially when you team it up with the D700. My recommendation is buy it you wont be disappointed. “ – by D. “I bought this lens at the same time I upgraded to the full frame D700. My DX Tokina 11-18mm (combined w/D90) just didn’t provide the full wide angle views that I wanted. Combined with my new D700, it is a great lens and the range in the telephoto is great for much of the pics I take for some landscaping companies and real estate stuff I am doing. The only downside is that the combo of D700/Nikon 14-24 is heavier than the D90/Tokina 11-18 lens. Insignificant however if you are into quality. Great full frame lens.” – by T. W.
