Nikon 10.5mm f/2.8G ED AF DX Fisheye Reviews

Photozone reviews the Nikon 10.5mm f/2.8G ED AF DX Fisheye and writes;
“The Nikkor AF 10.5mm f/2.8G ED DX Fisheye is a very decent performer with a very high resolution for most of the image frame. The primary weaknesses are chromatic aberrations (color shadows at the borders) and purple fringing (color blooming). “
Rating: ★★★★☆

Kenrockwell reviews the Nikon 10.5mm f/2.8G ED AF DX Fisheye and writes;
“Amazingly, the built-in has little to no problem with casting a shadow at the bottom of your image. The built-in also helps not to blow out the ceiling, so try any of the built-in, and any of the diffuser or focal length settings of a hot-shoe mounted flash to get your best image. “

Momentcorp reviews the Nikon 10.5mm f/2.8G ED AF DX Fisheye and writes;
“If you are a Nikon DX shooter and you are looking for a super wide angle or a Fisheye, this is the lens to get. “

Nikon 10.5mm f/2.8G ED AF DX Fisheye User Reviews

The most fun I’ve ever had with a lens | Rating: ★★★★★
“I cannot say enough great things about this lens. I have a blast shooting with it – it always brings a smile to my face. It’s reasonably fast and VERY compact. if you’re more than a few feet away from your subject, you can safely “defish” your images with a wide variety of software tools – and the results are fantastic, even if you lose some of the details on the sides.” – by Benjamin Stephens

Lovin’ my fish-eye (wide-angle lens), | Rating: ★★★★★
“I love it! It is of excellent quality. I only wish it could do some zooming, but that contradicts the wide-angle bit, I suppose. I shot beautiful island/ocean scenes; great, wide sunsets; captured full rooms of people; captured the length of the ship. And if you crop the top and bottom, you get a great landscape photo (wide but not tall). I highly recommend this to photography enthusiasts.” – by Photo Chick

Wide, Wild, and Wonderful! | Rating: ★★★★★
“This lens is a wonderful wide angle lens. It’s light weight, focuses fast, and is nice and fast. Wide angles are lots of fun for close up work and this lens focuses down to 5.5 inches. Shooting groups indoors this lens allows you to capture the whole group. If you user Nikon’s Capture NX 2 software you can un-wrap some of the distortion introduced if you wish. Attached to my Nikon D90 it takes amazingly sharp and vibrant photos and makes fun distorted video clips.” – by Paul Claxton

Fast and fun lens, | Rating: ★★★★★
“Most fisheyes are special-purpose lenses and very expensive, but the Nikon 10.5 is unique in that it has very good optical performance and is also reasonably affordable. As far as optical performance goes, it’s sort of a secondary topic for a special-purpose lens of this type. However, having said that, it is extremely sharp and contrasty lens that tolerates being pointed into the light with little flare. I’ve noticed a bit of color-fringing sometimes, but nothing that can’t be corrected easily with your favorite photo editing software. “ – by Busy Executive

Very fun creative lens and it has some practical uses, as well, | Rating: ★★★★★
“This lens is the equivalent to about 16mm in 35mm terms and because it’s full-frame (and not the circular type of fisheye) it lends a very interesting perspective to many types of photography. The quality seems pretty good physically (it’s small and light, which is nice), though it doesn’t have the tough metal body that would make it more durable (and more expensive and heavier)….” – by Jeff Wignall

Solid fisheye for the modern digital platform | Rating: ★★★★★
“This Nikon G full-frame fisheye delivers a clear image with a solid build quality. Also the 10.5mm focal length gives the perspective I’m used to from 16-18mm lenses on the old film format. It does what a fisheye is best at. “ – by Jim Gerdy

One of my favourite lens | Rating: ★★★★★
“I DO use this lens for wedding photos with brilliant result. In a situation where the Cathedral is so huge with beautiful painting all the way to the roof, NO OTHER LENS can beat this one. Just use it carefully (alway take Paralel on horizontal axis), do correction with Image Trend, and crop to 70%. You still get an amazing pricture which is SHARP and usable… “ – by Dari Manado

Features & Specifications

Nikon 10.5mm f/2.8G ED AF DX Fisheye Specifications

A fisheye lens is a wide-angle lens that takes in an extremely wide angle of view. The Nikon 2148 AF DX Fisheye-NIKKOR 10.5mm f/2.8G ED lens was designed exclusively for NIKON digital SLR cameras that feature NIKON’s DX Format Sensor. The AF DX Fisheye-Nikkor 10.5mm f/2.8G ED lens significantly expands NIKON’s DX-Nikkor category of interchangeable lenses. Go beyond wide angle with this DX series lens for your Nikon DSLR.

The actual focal length of 10.5mm is equivalent to that of about 16mm on a 35mm-film camera. 16mm is considered the borderline from ultrawide angle to fisheye. Unlike older fisheye lenses that cut-off the corners, this fisheye lens fills the entire frame with a useful image. Nikon DSLR owners now can enjoy wider angle shots of landscapes, skylines, and astronomical views of the night sky with the Nikon AF DX Fisheye-NIKKOR 10.5mm f/2.8G ED lens.

This is the wide-angle lens you’ve been missing. Now is your opportunity to pick one up. Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass element minimizes chromatic aberration. Design enables a combination of wider angle of view with optical characteristics that are optimized for Nikon digital SLR camera sensors. Nikon D-type design provides precise distance information for flash and ambient light exposure processes. Rounded diaphragm makes out-of-focus elements appear more natural. G-type DX NIKKOR is designed exclusively for use with Nikon digital SLR models. Built-in flower-type lens hood Includes CL-0715 soft case, lens cover, rear cap For Nikon DSLR camera with a DX mount / Also compatible with FX series in DX crop mode

This is Amazing. But it would be funny to use this lense for family photograph or weddings (pros know better) or even your average wide angle landscape.

But seriously, if you are looking for a second wide-angle lens, and have an eye for images that are beyond the ordinary, this lens is perfect.
