Nikon 1 V1 Reviews

Cameralabs reviews the Nikon 1 V1 and writes;
“The continuous shooting is undeniably impressive, but the killer feature for many will be the ability to capture high resolution images while filming HD video. Until now, most cameras either allowed you to only capture stills at the video resolution (which is only 2 Megapixels even for Full HD), or unceremoniously interrupted the recording. Now the Nikon 1 cameras let you grab 15-20 stills at 8.3 Megapixels (cropped 16:9) without interrupting 1080i video.”

Photographyblog reviews the Nikon 1 V1 and writes;
“Noise is kept to a minimum, and only becomes disturbing at ISO 3200 in very low light. Colours are perhaps somewhat muted for a consumer camera but you can easily add a little punch by switching to the Vivid picture control.”
Rating: ★★★★☆

Techradar reviews the Nikon 1 V1 and writes;
“Image quality from the Nikon V1 is good and noise is nicely controlled, especially if you have time to process the raw files individually. The sensor is small enough to allow a small camera body, but large enough to enable control over depth of field.”
Rating: ★★★☆☆

Digitaltrends reviews the Nikon 1 V1 and writes;
“The continuous mode is a nice 10 fps and we used that when the occasion fit. We must admit the VR 10-100mm power lens is a killer. It moves very smoothly and quickly through the focal range (27-270mm) via the side-mounted toggle switch. Another nice thing about the lens is its silent operation thanks to a voice coil motor.”
Rating: ★★★½☆

Mansurovs reviews the Nikon 1 V1 and writes;
“Other advantages of the Nikon 1 V1 camera worth noting are the built-in electronic view finder.., instant hybrid autofocus, very quick image and video recording speeds, great ergonomics…, built-in intervalometer, excellent metering, great battery life and ease of use.”

Photoreview reviews the Nikon 1 V1 and writes;
“Video quality was good but not outstanding. HD clips were quite detailed but playback was often slightly jerky and erratic. It was impossible to grab sharp frames from the clips shot with the interlaced mode, although we had no problems with the other modes.”
Rating: ★★★★☆

Pocket-lint reviews the Nikon 1 V1 and writes;
“up to ISO 800 shots are remarkably clean and detailed with ISO 1600 shots only slightly less so. Metering is good overall, but the spot metering zone is a little too big for precise control. In terms of the white balance control, things look very good indeed, with mixed lighting being handled well and the neon lights of Shanghai city’s skyline proving no real problem.”
Rating: ★★★★☆

Luminescentphoto reviews the Nikon 1 V1 and writes;
“If you’re looking for a camera to use on a family vacation, to take photos of your kids’ soccer games, and to be able to hand it to a friend or relative to get a photo of yourself, then the V1 is absolutely wonderful.”
Rating: ★★★★☆

Digitalcamerareview reviews the Nikon 1 V1 and writes;
“Initial image quality from our full-production J1 review unit (that’s right, stay tuned for the full analysis) looks promising. Sharpness at the center of the frame and out toward the edges using the 10mm (27mm equivalent) pancake looked very nice.”
rating: N/A

CNET reviews the Nikon 1 V1 and writes;
“In terms of color performance, Nikon has done quite well in this area with its image samples displaying pleasing and natural color without going over the top. Though the out-of-focus regions may not be as defocused as larger-sensor shooters, it makes up for that in delivering images with crisp details and excellent sharpness.”
Rating: ★★★½☆

Ephotozine reviews the Nikon 1 V1 and writes;
“The lens line up is also lacking in bright aperture lenses, and it will be good to see if the future lenses address this. The camera features hybrid AF, with contrast and phase detection built into the sensor, this should provide extremely fast focusing, and initial impressions were very positive.”

Nikon 1 V1 User Reviews

A fun camera with a few little flaws and lots of new stuff
“I’ve shot with the Nikon in the studio (using LED light panels) and outside for the last five days. It focuses very, very quickly and with the mechanical shutter engaged it shoots at 5 fps. You can also use the electronic shutter to shoot 10, 30 or 60 fps. Amazingly fast. The EVF works very well in bright sun and in low light.” – By Kirk Tuck “Kirk Tuck”

At least for me the camera I was looking for
“It’s small compared to DSLRs, feels solid, the viewfinder is a pleasure and I have the possibility to watch the shot pictures at the viewfinder, where I can judge focus etc. And at the end the picture quality is surprisingly high. At least I am very satisfied, have fun with it and even sold my DSLR equipment.” – By H. Puukka

Great camera for the sensor size open minded
“Just got the flash today. More good thinking by Nikon – has bounce and rotates and is light as it requires no batteries. Exposures made inside, bounce and direct, look nice and even.” – By Kodachrome man

Nikon 1V has what I need
“The 1V allows me to take great pictures without having to carry around the large and heavy DLSR. I especially like the 10 mm fixed focal length lens as it caused me to think more about composure and shooting position. Now, I take my 1V with me on all outings and the results are pleasing. ” – By frankinblair

Best camera for family memories
“The Nikon’s image quality was quite a bit better than what I saw from the S100. When looking at raw image samples in Aperture, I found the high-iso detail between the V1 and G3 (proxy for GX1) to be pretty close, despite the G3′s larger sensor and 60% pixel advantage.” – By J. Wilder

Almost perfect
“I took this VERY SWEET small camera to Africa on safari, while all my friends were still trying to balance their very heavy, large lens cameras I had already taken the shot which means I caught the leopard in the tree using the powerful 30-110mm which apparently is roughly a 60-220mm.” – By Nancy Walker

Nikon 1 V1 Kit
“I wouldn’t say that my shots were perfect but man they were great! The sweeping panorama mode is pretty neat too, especially for someone that doesn’t feel like spending the time in post processing to stitch multiple photos together.” – By Chris “Gadget Guy”

Excellent compact for fast action. “Enthusiasts” look elsewhere
“It is also a good camera for a street photography enthusiast since it is absolutely silent, fast and autofocus is excellent in normal light and does very well tracking moving subjects.” – By Mikhail Arkhipov

Astonishing
“there is not much manual flexibility, but my experience so far is that this little camera takes exceptionally good pictures and absolutely stunning videos. By all means get the 10 mm lens – you can shoot indoors without extra lighting!” – By Mystery Fan

Better Than I expected
“I must say I am impressed with this camera system. It’s small and light and takes incredible photos without having to do anything but point and shoot. The V1 lenses give nice sharp images with lovely contrast and saturation. Overall, much better than my P7000″ – By GardenerbobW “GardenerbobW”

The best small camera available for action photos
“Focus speed and accuracy are incredible. If you have a subject moving directly toward you at good speed, you might get “runned over” but the V1 will get you a sharp picture of your demise.” – By Roy

A no fuss camera with excellent performance
“It’s a user-friendly camera that gets (most of) the job done. I also see it as a great travel-camera because it’s well-built, small(ish) profiled that can be carried everywhere, and the image quality is perfectly fine for the web and 8×10 prints.” – By SL

Nikon V1
“This is an excellent camera & the lens are sharp as a tack. All you have to do is pick one of these up & you can feel the quality. The video is better than on my D7000.” – By John Wright

GREAT things come in small packages
“I use the 10-30mm (27-81mm) lens 85% of the time. It’s nano-sharp, with a short and easy zoom barrel, and focuses down to 8″ throughout the entire zoom range… I love this little TOY! Yes expensive, but worth every penny.” – By kenn
