Manfrotto 055CXPRO3 Expert Reviews
Trustedreviews reviews the Manfrotto 055CXPRO3 and writes;
“The Manfrotto 055CXPRO3 is a professional quality tripod, designed, built and finished to a very high standard. It will support the weight of any DSLR and lens combination with ease, and has rock-like rigidity. At around £275 including a head it’s also good value for money. It’s a bit too big and heavy for backpacking or other outdoor pursuits, but if you have to carry a big tripod try to make sure it’s this one. “
Cameralabs reviews the Manfrotto 055CXPRO3 and writes;
“Our final test was with the flagship carbon fiber 055CXPRO3, which with its centre column down took an average of 1.5 seconds to dissipate the vibrations from our sharp tap. Unsurprisingly this is the best result of the four models tested, but not significantly better than the smaller 190 version with our relatively modest load; you’ll need to mount much heavier loads to really see the benefit. But it’s still over twice as fast at dissipating vibrations as the aluminium 055 under the same conditions. With the centre column raised though, the vibrations actually took longer to dissipate than the carbon fiber 190, with an average of 4 seconds.”
Neutralday reviews the Manfrotto 055CXPRO3 and writes;
“In the field and in the studio, the Manfrotto 055CXPRO3 has worked great. It’s relatively easy to put the legs into nearly any position, even to photograph subjects directly on the ground. Getting to its lowest depths means the center column has to go horizontal, but once done, getting stable shots from the earth’s perspective are a piece of cake.”

Great Carbon Fiber Value
“At $400 it’s not cheap, but since it works so well, it’s a GREAT value. The leg locks are flip-locks that I love. With a little adjusting, they open and close easily and securely. Out of the box, I found them to be a bit tight. Adjustment is a breeze with the supplied tool…” – By Jimmy S. Greene
“I have owned this wonderful piece of equipment for 3 weeks and I have got to tell you, it is just amazing what this baby can do. I am 5’9 and the 190 series is just too short for me( center column down for the ultimate stability). I paired this with the 488RC2 and it’s a perfect marriage. I am just so satisfied with this product. If you have any second thoughts about buying this because of the price,I say just buy it,you won’t regret it!” – By Algernon Ong
Best Tripod I ever had
“This is the best tripod I have ever owned. It is very lightweight and the legs extend with such ease. Also the column tilts to make macro shots much easier to take. I recommend this to everyone. “ – By Kyle E. Drake
You get what you pay for
“$400 (average price)…hard to stomach at the store or “purchase” button. But, once it’s in your hands and holding your camera and lens rock solid, flipping to macro mode, quick-flipping to adjust the legs, pleasurably carrying it on hikes, etc., you’ll realize you spent your money well. This is one large but lightweight tripod. It holds up to 17 lbs. so bring on the biggest tele lens you have. (I pop my Sony A700 + Tamron 200-500 on it with no worries.) I put the 486R2 ballhead on the top; it compliments the legs well. For anyone 6+’ tall, this tripod will not make you slouch over. No bag, but oh well. You’ll enjoy these legs. “ – By M “that’s me”
Great for using in creeks and lakes. Changed my photography
“Scott Kelby recommends this tripod in his top seller, Digital Photography. It is definitely one of the best pieces of advice I ever read. While pricey, this tripod is worth every buck. Using it near daily for several months and capturing several thousand photos has changed my photography for the better, especially landscapes and water shots.” – By Jerald Winter
Excellent value and quality tripod
“In addition to other attributes, this tripod had the best height to weight ratio at the price that I could find. By height I mean the height without the center pole extended. Very complete information was available to be sure this tripod had the specs required for my camera, plus lens, and my height.” – By Wandotraveler
Is this the perfect tripod
“The center column can be pulled all the way up and flipped to a horizontal position on top of the tripod. You have to see how this works, it’s hard to explain but simple and quick to do. Then the legs can be flipped out to 90 degrees. The tripod is now resting flat on the ground with the camera pointed down (if desired). You have to see this demonstrated to understand it, but it’s fantastic. “ – By G. Berger
AWESOME, LIGHT, and EXTREMELY WELL MADE
“Manfrotto has come up with a true winner with this tripod. REAL carbon fiber and magnesium construction keeps the weight light as a feather (It’s lighter than my laptop!). It feels very sturdy even at full extension of the legs and center column. I mated mine with a Manfrotto 322RC2 Grip Action Ball Head and it attaches flawlessly on the tripod. The tripod and ball head handle my Canon 5D MKII with the lower dual battery pack and a 100-400mm Canon lens without straining. “ – By Frank E. Trinkle
“II really can’t say much more than whats already been said but, for the money you would thnk it would come with leg covers, bag and, the hidden spiked feet instead of trying to squeeze extra bucks out of a customer. Needs a better weight hook set up. Other than these gripes, I like it very much.” – By R. Lewis
“I’m an amateur photographer, and have had my old clunky aluminum tripod for decades. After getting a D300 I decided to take a huge step up to the 055CXPRO3 carbon fiber tripod with 322RC2 Joystick head. UNBELIEVABLE Superb quality, super rigid, plenty of height, folds up small 24″, very lighweight to carry, and easy to use…” – By tinner
