The Lensbaby 3G SLR lens allows photographers to lock the Lensbaby in a desired bent position simply by pressing a button. Then, using a traditional barrel focus mechanism, photographers can do fine focusing and precisely place the sweet spot of sharp focus before pressing the shutter release.

OutbackPhoto has reviewed the Lens Babies 3G and writes;
“We have no doubt that you can use the Lensbabies 3G for creative work. It takes quite a while to learn how to use the Lensbaby distortions for good images and we are just now beginners…At first we thought of Lensbaby only as a toy. Yes, it is like a toy because it is fun to experiment. But then we now believe it can be a tool to create beautiful creative images.”
CNET have reviewed the Lens Babies 3G where they rate the lens 8.5/10 and write;
“Of course, as it stands he’s pretty close. Compared with the first two generations, the Lensbaby 3G is a dream to operate. The locking mechanism and focus ring make the Lensbaby experience less of crapshoot, though you can still mimic the classic experience if you crave the uncertainty of the first two generations. Since the company is obviously rather small, Lensbabies can be tough to find at some online retailers, but you can order the Lensbaby 3G directly from the Lensbabies online store. If you’re not used to the cost associated with SLR lenses, or even if you are, you may balk at the $270 price tag in the company’s online store, but given its complex design, its quality construction, and the addictively fun experience of using one, it does seem worth the cost”
PopPhoto have reviewed the Lens Babies 3G and write;
“It’s a different breed of Lensbaby, but the 3G is a Lensbaby nonetheless. Just for fun, we attempted to analyze the distortion of the Lensbaby 3G using DxO 2.0, and the results were off the chart! (We’ve included several DxO dot-pattern target shots, to give the reader an idea of some of the distortions possible with the 3G.)”
