Leica Macro Elmar-M 90mm f/4 Reviews
Stevehuffphoto reviews the Leica Macro Elmar-M 90mm f/4 and writes;
“It’s sharp from f/2.8 down, it has a nice smooth rendering, the bokeh is nice, and it is relatively easy to find on the used market for a not so crazy price.”

Kenrockwell reviews the Leica Macro Elmar-M 90mm f/4 and writes;
“Bokeh, the quality of out-of-focus areas as opposed to the degree of defocus, is wonderful wide-open. Backgrounds never distract. Bokeh degrades as stopped-down, but so what; if you need great bokeh, you’re shooting wide-open anyway. The LEICA MACRO-ELMAR-M 90mm f/4 has minor pincushion distortion. You won’t see it unless you’re looking for it, and even if you do, it’s minor. This is a very, very sharp lens at every aperture. It’s just as sharp wide open; in fact, I find f/4 to be the sharpest aperture; diffraction starts to dull things by f/5.6!”

Macro lens for Leica M Rangefinder Cameras | Rating:

“I have no doubt that the 90mm f4 Macro Elmar-M telephoto lens is a superb optic in its own right,… I have seen superb pictures taken with this lens. However, I believe Leica erred in introducing this telephoto lens, since the rangefinder camera is not superior to the SLR camera for macrophotography (Instead, I know that it is much easier to focus closely with a 35mm SLR camera than a 35mm rangefinder camera for macrophotography, since you will see exactly what you’ll photograph through a 35mm SLR pentaprism, having spent many years photographing with 35mm SLR macro lenses made by Nikon and Carl Zeiss.)….” – by John Kwok

Leica Macro Elmar-M 90mm f/4 Specifications
With the Leica Macro-Adapter-M this lens permits macro shots to a magnification of 1:3. Without the adapter, it serves as a compact 90 mm telephoto lens. In combination with the Tri-Elmar, this lightweight telephoto lens provides an excellent, universally usable compact system for traveling. When retracted, it is no larger than a 50 mm lens.
Leica Macro Set M
The attractive set includes the Leica Macro-Elmar-M 90 mm f/4 (black anodized or silver chrome-plated), the Leica Macro-Adapter-M for M 90 mm f/4 and the M Anglefinder. It is a real boon for shooting in the macro mode, as when shooting flowers, insects and other close-up subjects, and is a great portrait lens.
