Konica Minolta DiMage Z6

The new DiMAGE Z6 uses Konica Minolta’s proprietary CCD-shift Anti-Shake system, convenient for telephoto shots and dimly lit situations. This Anti-Shake system compensates to minimize the effect of camera shake, allowing users to shoot with shutter speeds four to eight times longer (2-3 stops) than on cameras without this technology. The DiMAGE Z6 can correct camera-shake without increasing the shutter speed, or raising the ISO sensitivity, which can increase noise.
REVIEWS (Last update: 02.02.06)
Cameras.co.uk reviewed the Konica Minolta DiMage Z6 and wrote:
“There are many digital cameras with long zoom lenses to choose between. In my opinion the Konica Minolta Dimage Z6 struggles to keep up with the competition. I was disappointed with the colours the camera produced and I also have concerns about the shutter lag. Therefore I would suggest looking elsewhere if this type of digital camera appeals to you.”
Theano Nikitas reviewed the Konica Minolta Dimage Z6 at CNET and gave it 6.7 out of 10 (good). He wrote:
“The good: 12X zoom lens; Anti-Shake image stabilization; broad feature set; extremely close macro focus; flexible continuous-shooting modes; compact SLR-style body.
The bad: Subpar EVF; less-than-stellar photo quality; movie mode downgraded to 320×240 resolution.
The bottom line: Compact and affordable, the image-stabilized megazoom Konica Minolta Dimage Z6 delivers a solid feature set. Finicky photographers may take issue with its image quality, though.”
Let’s Go Digital reviewed the Konica Minolta DiMage Z6, gave the camera 4.5 out of 5 stars and wrote:
“The overall image quality is fine, with a fine colour rendition showing natural colours. The noise ratio is rather high, starting at 200 ISO. The prints however are neat, but the image rendition on the monitor is much more critical. The ISO range is therefore less useful and if you want to go for the highest quality possible you’d have to settle for and stick to ISO 100. The images turn out fine and are a good base for a true-to-life print. The sharpening is not too strong, possibilities for editing the shot afterwards are still open for those who like to control the end results themselves.
In a nutshell: we may consider the Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z6 a fine successor of the DiMAGE Z5 camera, without extraordinary changes. The resolution raise doesn’t bring a lot in terms of percentage, but in the long run it will prove to be the perfect choice when the lower resolution DiMAGE Z5 version will disappear. The camera is all-round applicable, offers an excellent innovation: the Anti-Shake system and moreover; its design nicely stands out from the crowd. Price / quality ratio is excellent and Konica Minolta brings a very attractive digital camera into the market that will certainly not be a flash in the pan. Here’s one to stay, a definite must!”
Ben reviewed the Konica Minolta DiMage Z6 at Digital Camera Review.com and wrote:
“The Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z6 is a good option in the field of point and shoot, ultra zoom cameras. The quick auto focus, minimal shutter lag, excellent battery life, great 12x zoom, and excellent Anti-Shake feature makes the mid-$300 price tag very reasonable. Since I liked the way this camera operated so much, I really wanted it to perform well in the image quality department, but the overexposure, lack of detail, and higher than average noise are pretty apparent.
Pros: Quick autofocus, Minimal shutter lag, Outstanding battery life, Effective anti-shake, Quick 12x optical zoom. Cons:Some issues with overexposure (which seems to cause a lack of detail), Higher than average noise, Iffy memory card access door
Bottom line: This camera is a good option for folks who don’t mind a non-pocketable camera and want to really utilize the ultra zoom. It would be a great camera to take a shot of the bench at a football game (as long as you’re not 100 rows away) or before a play starts.
