All the Strength, Half the Weight
“The Gitzo GT2542L is a revelation. It weighs about a third what my old tripod does. It’s considerably more solid. The legs deploy as fast or faster, with no risk of blood blisters from poorly designed snap locks. And the camera is at eye level. Folks, if you do nature photography and haul a big lens around in the field, this tripod can change your life. Very highly recommended.” – By James D. DeWitt
Light and versatile
“This tripod is no small investment, but its lightness and versatility are worth the money. Easy to operate, provides a sense of great security for you equipment and will not be a great burden if trekking with it on your backpack. “ – By Oscar Chang Neyra
“Spending this amount of money on a tripod is a bit scary. Its almost the price of a lens. However you will not be disappointed. Its a seriously strong work horse yet wonderfully light. Invest in a good Gitzo head with this and you will be set. I normally go through a tripod a year in my work. I shoot vineyards all over Chile and can be opening and closing a tripod 70,80 or more times in a day. This takes it’s toll. However with the Gitzo GT2542L its fluid, fast and does not seem to damage the workings so much. I am sure this will last more than the year and in the long run will save me money.” – By Mr. M. F. Wilson
“After doing research for weeks….reading reviews online, asking photographer friends, going to stores to look, see, touch and play with tripods, I decided on the Gitzo GT2452L. I paired it up with a Really Right Stuff ballhead (BH-40 LR II BH-40 with B2 AS II clamp)…I decided not to go with anything “lesser” than the best because I was afraid I would be sorry later and want to upgrade.” – By Kimberly A. Taller than I expected
“…When I leave one section completely closed, it’s still 3″ taller than my previous tripod. And better still, I can shoot at 1” off the ground when I want to. In a matter of seconds, the bottom piece of the center column, where the hook is, can be unscrewed allowing you to remove the center column and reinstall it backwards (upside down). Yes, your camera will be upside down, but who cares! combine this with “live view” and a shutter release and this tripod can get you shots from 1″ off the ground to 75 1/2″ (eyepiece height with medium ballhead I’m using, Markins Q3). That’s amazing. I’ve only had this tripod for a few days now and I can say that It’s way better, lighter and more versatile than anything I’ve ever used before!” – By 5D Mike

Gitzo GT2542L Features & Specifications
The Gitzo GT2542L Mountaineer 6X Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs is an eye-level tripod that uses advanced “Carbon 6X” carbon fiber material for its leg construction. This improved tubing is stronger, lighter and as resistant as its 12 layer predecessor. Carbon “6X” is manufactured using a complex, 3-D process weaving 6 layers of carbon fiber into smooth, solid constructed tubes.
The GT2542 is ideal for use with DSLRs with 200mm lenses (up to a 300mm maximum), lightweight camcorders, and spotting scopes. It offers an excellent load capacity rating of 26.4 lbs (12kg) and good torsional rigidity.
Anti-Rotation Leg (ALR) System
The Anti-Rotation Leg (ALR) system makes it quick and easy to open and close the tripod. Simply turn all of the locking rings at once and the whole leg can be pulled out in seconds.
The G-Lock mechanism has been completely redesigned in order to achieve a 20% increase in rigidity, faster operation and stronger, safer locking. G-Lock’s special design also provides a “gravity lock” effect: the higher the load applied vertically to the leg, the stronger the lock.
The Power Disc features two locking screws, one directly for the column and one for the head. This assures a rock solid connection of the whole system. This machined aluminum disc also includes the Safe Lock material, which cuts down on vibrations.
Redesigned Upper Discs & Bolts
This tripod features completely redesigned upper discs and bolts. The discs, which are composed of aluminum, feature a safe lock material that reduces vibrations and improves head locking. The improved high-grade stainless steel bolt design prevents it from dropping inside the column when adjusted, and makes controlling the tread length stress-free. The redesigned bolts are also corrosion and oxidation resistant.
This feature allows you to remove the center column to save weight and get the camera closer to the ground. The upper disk is removed from the center column and inserted directly into the upper casting using the column hook. No tools required. In addition, this tripod has a redesigned magnesium upper casting for a further weight reduction, and a third ultra low leg spread to take full advantage of the Ground Level Set.
1mm Gitzo 6X Carbon Fiber Tube
Gitzo was able to develop a six-crossed multilayer carbon fiber 30% lighter than the previous 1.5mm generation that features the same exceptional performance of stability and vibration absorption and unbeatable quality.
Performance design allows the legs to be set individually at 24°, 55° and 90° to cover every angle you want to shoot.
Redesigned built-in, self-locking, spring-loaded retractable hook on the bottom of the center column provides a place to hang a stabilizing counterweight such as camera, sand or water bags.
Removable Leg Tips
Removable self-locking rubber leg tips are interchangeable with Gitzo universal accessories such as the big foot, long spike, etc.
Grooved Rapid center column, with locking collar, for improved stability.
