Very good quality for the price
“The tripod is a little heavier than my other tripod, but still manageable. It has three level bubbles on the tripod to make sure that your tripod is as level as possible for the camera, which I find to be very helpful! The head also stays in place much better too so that once the tripod is adjusted, the head stays solid. The tripod also comes with a small tool for adjustments which I haven’t used yet, but I’m sure will come in handy. It does tend to wander a little bit for vertical shots (but I haven’t tried to adjust it yet). Compared to my other tripod for the price however, I have been much happier with it.” – By Renee

I would buy this product again & again
“This tripod with 3 way head is truly a professional tripod. I am surprised the price was so low. I am even considering buying an extra one to keep in my car….. Now for the up side on this little GEM, the 3 way head is Super Great, The center Tube is Reversable meaning you can flip the center Tube over and mount your camera Upside down… I would have expected to pay more for this super quality made tripod and features. … I love the tripod myself.” – By disabledveterangoarmy Koontz

Light weight, with a strong head
“I replaced an old $30 tri-pod with this Giottos MTL 9251B / MH 5001 combo. It is not the most expensive or professional tri-pod, but it works great. It has very fluid movements, and when I lock the movements into place they stay. I am using a Canon EOS 50D. It seems to be made of good quality materials and construction, and will hopefully last me a long time.” – By Byron S. Koontz

This review is for the tripod only! See separate review for the head which is FRAGILE
“This is an excellent tripod! Not too heavy for an aluminum tripod. I now use it with a ball head. This is a great value for the price. It looks like a piece of art! But what’s important is how well it performs, and perform it does! I have another tripod… a monster which is very capable of supporting an 8 x 10 view camera! This tripod is less than half the weight! I use this with a fully decked out Nikon D700 with MB-D10 battery grip attached, and either my Nikon 14-24 f/2.8, 24-70 f/2.8, or my 70-200 f/2.8 lenses… all over 2 pounds each (70-200 is about 3.5 pounds!) and this tripod holds it all rigidly!” – By Joseph A. Very satisfied
“This tripod is very sturdy, I have used this tripod with a professional DSLR with a very heavy lens and it performed perfectly. The leg locks are quick and easy to use and hold the legs in position very securely. The ball head works smoothly and quietly, a very nice feel throughout it’s movements. The bubble level is something my old tripod didn’t have, therefore I didn’t think it would be of much value to me, but I was wrong, it helps so much in keeping the camera straight, awesome feature. I couldn’t be happier with this tripod and I would highly recommend it.” – By PETER CAMYRE

Features & Specifications

Giottos MTL9251B-5001 Features & Specifications

The Giottos MTL 9251B-5001 Tripod is a standard size 3-section aluminum model paired together with a 3-way pan/tilt head. It is made for use with most consumer SLR camera setups, and shares much of Giottos’ feature set that is unique to their MTL class of aluminum models. With 25/22/19mm segments, the MTL 9251B-5001 is made for use with consumer-class SLR cameras with moderate telephoto lenses, such as a 55-200mm type lens.

There’s not too much in the world of tripods that Giottos doesn’t think to incorporate into their best models such as this MTL 9251B-5001. It has foam padded upper segments, a bubble level right at the neck of the unit, flip-lock levers which can be attended to in the field if needed, and an included tool kit which has a special short column attachment that allows an impressive minimum operating height. The MH 5001 3-way head has distinct locks for each axis of movement, with a ‘snap-in’ quick release system.

All together, this tripod/head combination weighs ~5 pounds, extends to 68.9″, and collapses to 29.6″.

* Classic aluminum alloy tripod with 25mm maximum leg segments and a 3-way pan/tilt head with quick release
* Giottos’ trademark “Qel” flip lever locks, which can be disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled in the field if necessary
* Foam-padded upper leg segments ease handling in cold and carrying upon shoulder
* Circular spirit bubble levels, atop tripod crown and at the base of the quick release adapter, help level both legs and base of camera
* Quick release plate features a spring-loaded 1/4″-20 camera screw, as well as an anti-twist video register pin
* Individual leg angle locks and detachable center column allow excellent minimum working height
* Rounded rubber leg tips
* Weight hook at bottom of center column aids stability (must hang you camera bag or other heavy item from it)
