Epson Stylus Pro 3880 Reviews

Photoshopcafe reviews the Epson Stylus Pro 3880 and writes;
“The thing that struck me was the quality of the prints, they are smooth and gorgeous, even tones and detailed, especially in the black and white prints. The printer has the smallest footprint of a 22×17 printer. “

Photo-i.co.u reviews the Epson Stylus Pro 3880 and writes;
“Generally, paper handling is very good, but the flimsy front paper catcher could be better. The rear sheet feeder will hold media sizes from 6×4 through to A2, multiple sheets can be loaded, but I suspect that most users will use this printer for single sheets. There is a front straight path media tray, this supports media up to 1.5mm thick.”

Ephotozine reviews the Epson Stylus Pro 3880 and writes;
“Skin tones are realistic and portraits are rendered true to life of the originals in the default Relative colorimetric setting. I love the amount of detail that the printer records, even on fine detail prints, the Epson has coped really well. When changing how the colours are handled, I found bold colours such as red, green, blue and yellow punch out of the paper when allowing the printer to handle colours. The prints that I got from the Pro3880 are excellent and worthy of putting in a portfolio or to exhibit with the quality it’s produced.”

Pdngearguide reviews the Epson Stylus Pro 3880 and writes;
“with being the best in its class, new features on the 3880 including its AccuPhoto HD2 Image Technology which noticeably improved print quality, make this model among the finest printers Epson has ever produced. And that’s saying something.”

NorthLight-Images reviews the Epson Stylus Pro 3880 and writes;
“An excellent, solidly performing printer for people wanting to produce relatively modest volumes of larger prints. Excellent colour and B/W performance coupled with larger ink cartridges mean that I’d suggest people looking at a R2880 seriously consider the step up to the 3880 – particularly if you want to print on a wider range of papers.”

PhotographyBlog reviews the Epson Stylus Pro 3880 and writes;
“The new screening technology, AccuPhoto HD2, is very impressive. The results from the 3880 are among the best I’ve seen, surpassed only by Epson’s 7900 and 9900 large format printers. Epson’s Advanced Black & White mode output (Figure 8) is excellent. The driver gives you the ability to customize the output while generating a neutral print that minimizes the amount of color inks used during printing, virtually eliminating color shift, or metamerism, when viewing under different light sources.”

User Opinions

Epson Stylus Pro 3880 User Reviews

A product line that has truly improved and matured, | Rating: ★★★★★
“The quality of the prints are really quite amazing. For the first time in my life, I looked at a couple of prints that I made in the “Advanced B&W” mode and had to admit that they were as good as anything that I could have produced in the darkroom. The Epson Exhibition Fiber paper (F surface) has a look and feel very similar to the Ilford FB (fiber based) Glossy paper that I used to print on. The color prints are also stunning. Although the Ilfochrome prints I used to make had a level of color depth and saturation that was hard to beat, these SP 3880 prints are at least 98% as good with 20% of the effort and 100% better control (via Photoshop). “ – by J. Miyano

Blown away! | Rating: ★★★★★
“After much research I have eagerly awaited the release of Epson’s newest printer. Set up with my PC was a snap – no brainer here. Before my first print, I calibrated my monitor with the Spyder system which I also highly recommend. I’ve printed with both Photoshop and Lightroom. From the very first print…..my colors have been right on the money. In fact, as good as any professional online service I’ve used. The images are simply astonishing. “ – by Jeffrey Edwards

Excelent output for pros and perfectionist amateurs, | Rating: ★★★★★
“Of course excellent output is what we’re looking for in a relatively high end printer. Before decommissioning my 2200 I ran a standard test image that includes gradations of white and black in increments of 2, from 2 to 254 on the standard 0-256 RGB scale. Then I printed the same file on the newly installed 3880. The test print also had bars with smooth gradations of RGB colors and a number of “real” pictures – strawberries; a black & white image, a face, etc…” – by Michael Sandman

I have little more to add.. | Rating: ★★★★★
“For the serious black and white printer the 3880 creates the most beautiful prints that could be neutral, cool or warm toned and created with ease. And colors are almost bang on to my color calibrated monitor (98%) and with the slightest bit of lightening to the Epson setting they match as closely as two different mediums could ever do.” – by Chris Newman

What a pleasure to use and GREAT prints! | Rating: ★★★★★
“Make certain your monitor is color calibrated and the software you will use to edit and print has the same color space or you will get color casts on the prints. After that it is a total breeze to create truely awesome prints. I took some of them and compared them to portraits done by commercial photo shops. The 3880 prints were hands down better with much better definition and saturation. 100% first rate. “ – by J. Price

Great photo printer for art and gallery exhibits, | Rating: ★★★★★
“I am pleasantly surprised by the 3880 in both how easy it was to setup and get great prints and it’s versatility. Basically it is an oversized 2880 printer but using the larger 80mil ink tanks, the extra ink capacity means lower costs per print and longer print runs between changing cartridges. On the quality side it does magnificently with Prints that are second to none. I already have prints 16×20 and 17×22 going up in local art exhibitions, some of the customers already having large printers of their own but preferring the quality of the prints the 3880 produces. “ – by Brendan Bhagan

Wow – And it will pay for itself, | Rating: ★★★★★
“The prints are spectacular. I used Eye-One to calibrate my monitor (on my Mac Pro with 2 24″ cinema displays) and the prints are as close to my monitor as I have ever had before. The advanced B&W mode is also spectacular. Finally perfect B&W prints. “ – by Howard W.

They’ve almost got perfect, | Rating: ★★★★☆
“First off, it is a remarkable machine that produces superb prints of artwork. All final digital product is, of course, dependent on the filtering and scanning that the intake and digital manipulation software provide, but the quality of printing for line drawings, ink washes, and similar works really impressed me. I have not done a lot with photograph reproduction, but what I have done was also impressive.” – by Dave Campbell
