Epson Stylus Photo RX620 Reviews

ShutterBug reviews the Epson Stylus Photo RX620 and writes;
“Black and white copies: Great job. You can use just about any paper for this—I even used “non-Epson” glossy and matte and it worked great. I did find that if I chose color copy for this work the prints came out a bit green—use the black and white button. The LCD menu guided me every step of the way, and I could make multiples of a single print on one letter-size paper with ease.”

Expertreviews reviews the Epson Stylus Photo RX620 and writes;
“Photo printing was far better. The RX620 produced some of the best prints we’ve seen from a multifunction device, but only at its highest quality – and slow – setting. Our A4 test picture took 15 minutes 12 seconds to appear. The RX620′s scanner is excellent, previewing an A4 sheet in six seconds and scanning a 6x4in photo at 600 dots per inch (dpi) in just 14.5 seconds. Negative scan times were reasonable, with a single frame scanned at 2,400dpi in 1 minute 40 seconds.”

PCAdvisor reviews the Epson Stylus Photo RX620 and writes;
“The RX620 is fairly expensive. It’s not as fast as you’d expect and the paper feeding is more erratic than we’d like. Colour output is fantastic, however, and scanning is excellent – a real rarity among MFDs. Add the raft of extra features, and graphics and digital camera enthusiasts will quickly forgive the RX620 its shortcomings.”
Rating: ★★★★☆

PCworld reviews the Epson Stylus Photo RX620 and writes;
“The six dye-based inks come in individual cartridges. Photos looked superb, with bright colors and good details in shadows, though many edges were slightly fuzzy compared to the output from other MFPs. Prints on plain paper, however, looked abysmal. The banding on our line art print reminded us of pajama stripes. Text looked fuzzy and even appeared to cast shadows in places; white dots were common in large, solid characters.”
Rating: ★★½☆☆

Pocket-lint reviews the Epson Stylus Photo RX620 and writes;
“Scanning is equally accomplished with a good, 3.3 Dmax (the darkest area of an image that a device such as a scanner can reproduce and still have detail, the higher the Dmax the more greater its dynamic range and so the more detail it can capture) providing plenty of shadow detail and colours are well rendered as is detail.”

CNET reviews the Epson Stylus Photo RX620 and writes;
“We might overlook the RX620′s overall slow performance if it compensated with excellent image quality. However, while the output we saw would be good enough for casual use, you can find better. Text was less dense than with other printers, and letters had jagged, stepped edges at all sizes, likely due to poor bidirectional alignment of the printheads. With color graphics printed on inkjet paper, the printer produced smooth gradients and realistic shading and textures, but we found washed-out colors and a soft-focus look throughout. Our high-resolution photos on glossy paper demonstrated good detail, but colors didn’t pop out, due to low contrast.”

User Opinions

Epson Stylus Photo RX620 User Reviews

The Epson RX620 is a wise investment and an excellent all-in-one machine
“This is the *best* printer I have ever owned and I am a professional marketing specialist, amateur photographer, and business owner. The color quality is amazing for an inkjet, period end of sentence. I have never had any clogging problems, the slots and USB are so easy to use and so accessible, the menu and how to work the printer is easy to learn and the color LCD screen is awesome. The scanner works better than any scanner I have ever owned, the range of papers you can print on is excellent, and it blows any HP (of which I have owned many) out of the water. “ – by J. C. Swartz

Professional photographer test results
“I am a nationally-awarded photographer twice nominated for the Pulitzer Prize. I have been a pro for three decadess satisfying the most critical demands of graphic artists, designers and other clients. And I build my own computers. [...] I ran a series of initial tests, using my own images, without making any Advanced adjustments to the machine or reading the Owner’s Manual. And got excellent prints with fine color and sharpness. I then downloaded a Printer’s Test image (8X10″ at 200dpi) and printed it at the printer’s “Best Photo” setting. Sharpness was great and color was only about 5% over in magenta… easily corrected in Adobe Photoshop. I then scanned that print and the results were equally impressive. Sharpness was perfect and, once again, the scanned image was over about 5% in magenta.” – by Rupert B. Heine

RX620 Worth purchasing
“It only took about ten minutes to figure out how to scan the old slides and it worked great! I have printed some text files that I printed on the machine that worked fine so I am pleased with the machine. From what all of you have said I will not be printing many pictures because of the cost of the ink but that’s ok because I can drop the jpg files off on a disk and just take them over to a store that handles prints cheaply.” – by James Peery

Good unit, reliable
“I’ve owned my Epson RX 620 for almost two years now, and use it several times a week for scanning, printing and copying. It has proven to be a good quality, reliable and versatile unit. Overall print quality is good, as good as one will see in printers at this price point. Color and black and white printouts both provide good detail and are very readable. I’ve yet to try printing high quality photos with the unit, but have found that printed screenshots with maps, photos or artwork in them turn out well. “ – by A. Vander Meulen

a true value
“Photo print quality is superb. This is all-in-out but its photo is as good as photo printer. There is a Photo Impact software that make printing photo very easy. Copy quality is excellent. And you can choose to do color or b&w copy. Scan quality is as good or even better than stand alone scanner. Supplied software is easy to use. Text quality is not as good but it’s ink jet. You just cannot expect laser quality. I have a laser printer so I have no problem with this issue.” – by C. Hsieh

I must be lucky to own both a R300 and a RX620 that work
“I have run over 15,000 sheets through my R300 and RX620 without any complaints. I buy cheap generic ink for $1.40 a cartridge without any problems. I know 3 others who own the same printers and they are very satisfied. I even recommended an RX620 to my boss who is also very satisfied. Her three young children use it for their school projects and have not experienced any problems. May be we have been lucky. My son has had Epsons for 8 years and he is a serious amateur photogragher who demands quality printing. I am amazed at how a few people who experienced “excessive ink usage” don’t understand why all inks are used when printing.” – by K. Moulder

this printer is wonderful
“ive purchased this printer a year and half ago. i was alittle bit surprised of the size at first. i am a nursing student and i needed a printer to seriously take a beating. i had to printer out over 300 pages for 1st semester. i didn’t have a problem, and then i printed out 10 photos. i was very pleased with the quality of the printing. um the only prob i have is that the paper would get jammed and i have to turn the printer on and off. i still love this printer, definitely less expensive then hp.” – by kylanie

Good all in one unit
“Print quality is excellent particularly on photos. Be aware though that this printer is very paper sensitive on photos and will give crap results on thicker photo paper such as double sided sheets. I find that using lightweight glossy photo paper achieves the opposite and gives superb results. The net result of which is do not use heavy photo paper in this unit.
The LCD display screen which gives you the menu of all the unit’s various functions is very bright and clear. What’s more it is really easy to use too, and it is a breeze to scroll up and down between various functions.”

Absolutely wonderful machine
“I bought this printer after I got married so I could print out wedding photos my photographer gave me on CD. Instantly fell in love with this printer! The quality of the photos it printed out where just as good if not better than the ones I got from our photographer! I was able to make copies for family and friends, and have also used it constantly for baby photos!” – by C. Peckenpaugh
